pretty/unusual RB Indian cent

Toothpuller spotted this 1882 PCGS MS65RB IH on Ebay knowing I can't resist nice toning on these. Besides the pretty irridescent colors it has some other unusual traits. The legend looks like strike doubling over Longacre's doubling, giving it a triple struck look on some letters. And besides the feathers, neck, nose and lips even the first portion of LIBERTY shows light doubling.

  • Wow. Neat coin Paul. That tripling effect is unusual. Too bad Lakesammman and Irish Mike will miss your thread. What magnification are you using for UNITED? Is there much green toning on the obverse?

I'll bring it with me tomorrow so Mike & Tim can check it out. Thanks for the heads up, it's a pretty coin.

The green is limited to the obverse. Not sure what magnification that is, but it's as close as I can get with the camera without losing the focus.

That is the Longacre doubling. You see the stepped doubling on all sides of the letters.
This was believed to be part of the design Longacre used to help with striking issues.
It was to help with metal flow.
However unusual the doubling,it usually doesnt add value to the piece.

Thats a stunning Princess.I love it.
