Home PSA Set Registry Forum

I enjoy the registry BUT...

It seems that as more people join the registry it has lead to more posts. So many that it is very hard to keep up with them all. Don't get me wrong - I really enjoy the registry and have learned a tremendous amount, but it seems that there is an increasing number of off topic posts. I'm not trying to pick on anyone because I'm sure that I haven't adhered to it perfectly but I few types of posts that I feel like we don't need are:

"I need a 75 topps borbon in a psa 1" - that is for the vintage sportscard trading forum. If someone is selling an entire set or huge lot of cards then surely post it here but not for the small stuff.

"I sent you a pm" - Wonderful but not everyone needs to know that.

"WOW" - where is the substance?

I enjoy this forum as much as anyone here but as new members come on board there are going to be more and more posts (which is good) but it is getting increasingly more difficult to wade through the junk posts to get to the good ones. I don't have any problem with people getting off topic - sometimes those are some of the most interesting posts but sometimes it seems its a race to see who can have the most meaningless messages.

Since I am completely off topic here myself I'll end this message. Happy Collecting.

    Wayne,

I agree. Especially the "I sent you a pm" or "did you get my email". Everyone stop that, PLEASE?

    JEB.

  • I was thinking of sending myself a PM. Would that make your list if I posted it?image

I agree with Wayne, but he underestimates what some people like and are capable of reading. What I disdain are the mindless, patronizing posts (such as "WOW" or "Yep") only meant to boost one's tally. I actually enjoy when someone posts a response that takes a new rabbit trail without having to start a new thread. It's like sitting around a "table of knowledge" full of collectors after a hard day in the aisles. There is a fair amount of knowledge, experience & good opinion on this board, but it doesn't take long to figure out who's in possession of same. When the idiot(s) post, just like at the "table" someone either ignores them, ridicules them or jumps down their throat so fast, they are humiliated and go away.

Here's a rabbit trail: I expect the new thread on Topps/Bowman history will yield loads of speculative opinion, but very, very little actual fact. All the people who REALLY know are dead and most of the ones who THINK they know are dillusional. I'll try hard NOT to post, but will read it for laughs.

Toppsgun: Let me at least respond to your comment on this. I agree that no one on the boards would personally have experienced the facts related to the above. As it turns out, both Berger and Gelman are deceased. Nonetheless -- Woody Gelman leaked a *TON* of Topps test issue material into the hobby. Whether for love of the hobby, in pursuit of the dollar, or something else, I can only speculate. Now -- I can also tell you for a fact that some very experienced and knowledgeable hobby insider read these boards -- at least sometimes. Not many respond, and those that do do not respond often. But those are the collectors that pay thousands of dollars for the Topps Dice Game, the 1967 Standups and the 1951 Konstanty and Roberts cards... I imagine it is at least plausible that one or two of those people may have met Gelman or had transactions with him -- perhaps something that may be of interest to the hobby.

I agree that posts should try to stick to substance, avoid petty differences and somehow be related to the hobby. I think this Forum has been wonderful, and I look forward to learning more in the future -- I think a lot of the "noise" that we are currently experiencing are new people to the Forum who have not yet learned the etiquette, etc., but hopefully things will be succinct and informative again soon.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Why do people care how big their number of posts is? Does this make them a well respected man about town?

Do not forget about Natalie Morales of CNBC. If she was just on Fox News Channel instead..then all would be right in the world.

  • OK, the saddest part is that I found this on
ONE of about a dozen FAN sites for this
LATENIGHT news chick! (hot or not!)

    Ill take Natalie over Cho....

  • Liz Cho is 31?! I wish I look the male equivelant to that at age 31... Maybe one of you guys can confirm the rumors circulating around my school, but female looks tend to go downhill after 29, and male's metabolisms generally lower around the same time. image

Liz unfortunately looks entirely too much like my second cousin for me to have any attraction toward her... My second cousin is only 15 though, so don't get your hopes up guys. image

I must agree with John, Natalie does it more for me than Liz, maybe because of my cousin, but I dunno, this picture beats all of Cho's... image

  • Hey Wayne,

Does this classify as a off-topic post..Only ironicimage

  • Have to admit Mrs. Cho, as the immortal Homer Simpson would say.........hmmmmmmmm, Choooo. But I have to throw in my vote for Lisa Guerrero. Insanely HOT!!!!!!!! image

    HMMMMMMM LISA

My name is Brian, I'm a cardaholic, as well as a Lisa junkie.
Stan Musial topped the .300 mark 17 times and won seven National League batting titles. A three-time MVP, he played in 24 All-Star Games. Probably, the greatest player who is overlooked and underappreciated.
