Trying to register a card on the registry...

I'm trying to register a card on the registry and it comes up as already registered. I emailed the guy who sold me the card and he said that he doesn't have a 75 Mini set and he submitted the card himself. I'm thinking that someone got the # off the ebay auction, maybe to use to register a set and get access to the registry special. Maybe the seller is lying, but I don't understand why he would. I've emailed setregistry@collectors.com and I'll let yall know what happens.

  • Was doing a little research to see which collectors had registered the #613 card. Started at the bottom and the first set I found has the #613 registered. Its the only one registered in that collection. Their email is not available... maybe I should send a few goons over to their house.

I've had the same thing happen a few times, and was able to go thru each set to find that NOBODY had registered the card. A quick email to Gayle got it resolved immediately.
On the other side of it, twice I've registered a card I've won on ebay from the image, only to get an email a few days later saying someone else was trying to register the card and had it in hand. Turns out the seller had a lot of them and didn't upgrade the image.
In all cases Gayle proved to be both very helpful and very patient! I'm sure you'll have similar results.

  • Yeah, get ahold of Gayle. I had the same trouble. Someone sold a card that was registered on the set registry. Gayle emailed the guy and it was taken out of his set within three days.

She got right back to me with the status each time this occurred.

    A real class act.

Same advice as everyone else. I had one last week (curiously it was a '75 Topps Baseball card as well). Gayle emailed the person who had it registered and the email address was no good. She asked me for a scan, I emailed it right away, she deleted the card from the other set, and I registered the card within hours.

Don't sweat it. It happens from time to time.

I've also found that occasionally the Set Registry won't "let go" of a particular card when you remove it from your set. I've sold a few to Mike Ledin, Dave Jacobs, Neil Downey and others and when they can't register their new PSA 8 they contact me. But, when we check in my registry, it shows that that card is a 9 or 10. Unfortunately, the systems still likes the 8 so much that it holds onto it too!

So, as others have stated - Gayle can work the registry magic and make your life (and set) complete!

  • Does Gayle have her own individual email or is she contacted through setregistry@collectors.com?

  • What kind of a bum would sooth his ego and lie about the cards he owns? You don't think it will ever come back to get you? HELLO!

    All,

I too have pulled cards from my set and sold them. I deleted the card from the registry but the new owner couldn't add the card to their set. Gayle is the answer to that problem. She is very quick and efficient...

  • If you can't register a card, the first thing to do would be to contact the person who just sold you the card and ask them to remove it from the registry. I'd have to think that this happens a lot. Emailing Gayle so she can try to get in contact with him is kind of wasting her time. If the guys replies that it's done, and it still won't register, an email to Gayle means all she has to do is clear it from the system. She doesn't have to contact your seller. If the guy doesn't reply or doesn't know that the card he sold you was registered, then email Gayle with a scan and she will take care of it. I'd like to suggest that if there is ever a clear cut example of somebody stealing cert-numbers from scans that they have absolutely nothing to do with, just to boost their registry status, that the person should be removed from the registry. It is insulting to the collectors who have worked so hard building a real registered set.

    I agree.

I register my card immediately upon the close of an EBAY auction.

Has there ever been a case where someone has captured the image off a Set Registry for fraudulent intent?
  • What might be a handy feature to have is something along the lines of the Cert# Verification tool. Maybe a Registry Verification tool. You could punch in the Cert# to see if anybody has the card registered. It wouldn't show you who had it registered or in which set it was registered, just that it was registered. You could enhance it to where if you were logged in and used it, if the card belonged to you it would then show you which sets you have it registered in. This would come in handy if you had a card that you weren't sure if you had it registered it or not. It would also help you to remove the card if it is listed in multiple sets like HOF, player, team, etc. Maybe also a button to click to remove it from all places it is registered in one shot. If you were thinking about buying a card, you could punch in the Cert#, notice it was registered, and ask the seller to remove the card when he sends it to you. It is a very slow process now to add and remove cards. This would also save considerable time if you were updating your set with say 10 or 15 cards spread over multiple page in a 600 or 700 card set. Remove them all in one shot, then just go in and add your new numbers.

WAITTIL - Great idea, I've been thinking of that for awhile as well, the more access to information we have, the better...jay
  • Update:

Gayle fixed everything. And quickly too. Thanks again Gayle!
