How does PCI rank???

I got this email from PCI with coupons on their services. How do they rank with the other company's? I was wondering if it would be worth it because $9 a coin isn't bad.

Has any members ever delt with them if so are they pretty fair? I was thinking about submitting Morgan Dollars.

Thanks!
Mike

You will find that their recent gradings are slipping and cleaned coins/overgrades are far too common... stay away from the gold label! (The older green ones seem to be accurate, though)...

Personally, I wouldn't submit a morgan to PCI...

    I wouldn't submit a THING to them.

there was a VERY recent post here concerning a counterfeit coin in a PCI holder.

Also, be VERY careful if buying PCI stuff. make sure it is the "old" holder.

It all depends on which holder the coins are in. Here is my opinion:

Green Label 10 digit serial number- Excellent grading, many upgrade at PCGS
Green Label 14 digit serial number- Good grading, usually consistent with PCGS and NGC
Green Label 9 digit serial number- Horrible grading, cleaned and damaged coins not noted on holder.
Gold Label 9 digit serial number- Same as above. Stay away from them.

Here again is where the active grading services rank, and in the following order.

    1.PCGS
    2.NGC
    3.ANACS
    4.ICG
    5.SEGS
    6.PCI
    7.NTC
    9.ACG.

If I were you , I would stop at number 3.

  • Thanks for posting this very interesting information. Because I'm an active buyer of PCI coins it helps a lot.

I find it curious that someone can take a perfectly nice, if not wonderful coin and by wrapping the wrong grading service holder around it turn the item into a piece of unsaleable dung. I guess it's sort of like dressing Robert Wagner up in bib overalls or having Ms. Winfrey do a show with her midriff exposed. Packaging matters.

    Thanks again for the info.
    Best,
    tom
