Experience Using eBay Live Auctions

Anyone had any positive or negative experiences participating in eBay Live Auctions (specifically Heritage or Superior)? I keep on trying to use it but it seems cumbersome and totally not "real time" to me. Comments......?

It's virtually impossible to bid in real time. I've only entered a proxy bid before the real time bidding starts.

That has also been my experience. They're fun to watch, but not really practical for live online bidding.

    Keoj,
I had the same experience/feelings, and haven't tried it again. It was a pain in the arse, to be quite honest.

I tried a couple times to bid and gave up. Can't get a bid in on time.

I was watching today's Superior live bidding for a while until I got booted off and couldn't get back on. Fun!
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

The fees are much cheaper if you just register on the Heritage/Superior website. The live auction usually has about 5% of the winning bid's worth of additional fees paid by you.

I haven't used it to bid, but I can say that I was on the cell phone with Laura today as the PF67 1794 half dime was auctioned (we ended up as the underbidder). I had the ebay Live auction up at the same time and the bids moved exactly in concert with the auctioneer in the room. I had expected a lag, but it was right on the button.

I would never even consider using it for a coin I had to have - pay a trusted dealer a negotiated fee for their opinion and representation and make darn sure your bid is executed!

I was 0 for 3 (superior auctions) prices were strong on the coins I wanted to buy.... image

    Works for me o.k.
When the auction was in N.Y. it was great, when it was in CA. it was somewhat slow.
    I live by N.Y.
  • In a word it, SUCKS!

I refuse to bid this way as you are simply acting fodder for Superior or Heritage. You are gauranteed to over pay given the 20% on Superior and more than likely to be sniped. if you are not sniped you have over paid.

    AVOID at all costs.

When they make it a level playing field then I will participate.
