Movie mistake

StoogeStooge Posts: 4,668 ✭✭✭✭✭
I recently went to see the movie "Gangs of New York" and in this movie they show alot of silver coins changing hands. Now I know that movies try to be as authentic as possible, but the date was 1864, and they were showing Morgan Silver Dollars, not to mention a few Barber Quarters.

I know that this has nothing to do with this board as far as PCGS, but I thought that it was a good movie mistake find, and I thought that you "error guys" would get a kick out of that.

Paul.

    Paul,

They'll spend Millions on Leonardo, but wont spend a couple hundred bucks to get the money right.

99.99999% of the people who see that movie won't know the difference, so why bother. Besides, MANY people can relate to a Morgan dollar, but practically no non-coin collectors could relate to a seated dollar.

I saw Catch me If you Can.. and they looked like they were using Red Seal notes from the Sixties.. I thought that was cool!!

Actually and ironically, I have seen both movies and they were both really good! I love movies.

"Catch me if you can" did have those old fed notes that were red and blue. He had 2 suitcases full of loot.

I have a minor correction to the first post. The movie started in 1864, but progressed 16 yrs later, but still it was before 1878 when the Morgan came out. They had the camera right down in his hand and showed the coins.

I graded it as a PRFCAM 63 1895. You know how those producers like to spend millions on movies.image

Wasn't there also an error made in the Titanic remake?

Actually, the money I'd like to get is the prop currency used in the movie Total Recall -- the Red Money from Mars.

Wow -- how about a registry set of high grade prop money??? (this comment made just to keep this thread legal in the set registry forum).

    cheers, alan mendelson

Trivia question, and I don't remember the movie, but maybe you do.

In what movie did someone flip a Seated Dollar in the air and shoot a hole through it?
