PCGS Green labels

I do not have one ...yet, but were the old PCGS green labeled coins graded the same as todays, graded harsh as todays, or graded less harsh than todays coins?

Thanks

I sent in three from the small rattlers I had. They were graded in december.
    old-new.
    1.62-58
    2.64-64
    3.65-65

    Placid,
Did you break them out or leave them in the holders?

i only have one old green slab, its a MS-63 peace dollar, looks right for the grade.

forgot to mention that it is in the holder sideways.

I have quite a few of them in the Mercs I collect. Grade wise there seems to be no difference at all. Maybe a couple would upgrade but really its not worth the effort to have it done. The one thing I have noticed is that PCGS has tightened up somewhat on how they give the FB designation. A couple in the Older Green holders would not make it now days.

send them in for grade review, you'll still have the same coins but you'll also get some cash back

i guess it all depends i would need to see the coin in person

i am sure some are undergraded/overgraded and right on

but i bet many of the undergraded ones have been resubmitted

the older green tag holders that i have seen have been severely undergraded coins!!!

in fact four that someone i know submitted in green tag holders within the last year that were to me gross undergrades with monster eye appeal in my opinion are now both in new blue holders and are currently the finest known for the entire series!! all dates and grades

and the other two are the finest known in their dates and also for their designations and currently all four of them are still not maxed out!!!!!!

i guess the short story is it all depends on the coin when viewed sight seen!!

    sincerely michael

  • I have both Franklins and Morgans in green labels and for the most part I don't see anything that would dissuade me to think that they were not graded correctly. If anything I think the green label coins are pretty consistent.

  • I bought over a year ago an 1884-O MS 63 PL Morgan dollar in an old green label from pcgs. The coin looks pretty nice.

I bought a 1942-S walker in PCGS green insert MS-66 at one of the Bowers & Merena auctions and STILL cannot understand why it is not an MS-67.

The luster glows in the dark and don't see the bag mark that would take it out of 67 and the strke just made a 67 in my opinion.

I am not going to crack it out and add to the MS-66 pop report of MS-66 42-S's which is grossly overstated.
