Does anyone buy the "Pre-Sale" coins?

I've noticed alot of dealer web sites and Ebay auctions advertise "Pre-Sale" coins, 2003 SAEs to be exact. Does anyone buy these or do you do like me and wait until these people actually have the coins in hand. To me, selling something you don't have is fraud.

They do that every day in the comodities market. Buy and sell even before owning anything.

Many people like to get first strikes and I think this may be the best way since dealers seem to get there coins first.

I bought some state quaters from a pre-sale. I had to email the saler to remind to send me the quarters. by the time I got them the next state was coming out. so I ain't to lucky with the pre-sale crap

We not talking about commodities. We're talking about a product, something tangible, something you can hold in your hand. You're talking about futures. I'll wait until I can see a coin before I buy it.

I think that if the seller makes it clear that it's a pre-sale, and gives at least an approximate date of availability, it's not fraud. The US Mint does this on commemoratives. I've seen pre-sale offers taken on so many other items from automobiles, musical instruments and model railroad stuff. Seems to me if this practice is illegal or fradulent, even the US Mint would have halted this practice.

If however they say they have something in stock before it's even available, that may be fraud, but I don't know enough about consumer protection laws to provide specifics. Still, I'm like you in that I like to wait until a product is available before purchasing.
