Just back from auction lot viewing @ FUN show

Just got got back from viewing auction lots for the Superior auction tomorrow and the Bowers & Merena auction Tuesday. Even though the show hasn't officially started yet, the viewing rooms were pretty much full all afternoon. I arrived @ 1p.m. and left after 4 1/2 hours. It will be interesting to see what sort of trend these two pre-auctions set before the real deal gets underway midweek.

    Greg,
Did you happen to view the Heritage lots? There are two circulated small eagle 1795 tens I am watching (lots 8723 and 8724).

Nope. I knew I wouldn't have time. I only had about 5 hours, and the viewing rooms for the Superior and B&M auctions were @ the same Hotel, so I just did those two. I will starting looking @ Heritage's stuff Wednesday morning. By then we should have a pretty good read from the first two auctions, how things are going to sell.

Lakesammman: You gotta remember that's all the full time dealers do - lobby leach, look thru boxes of "stuff", preview auction lots, look thru boxes of "stuff", look at other dealer's cases, look thru boxes of "stuff", look at coins back from the grading services and look thru boxes of "stuff".

Anything that has a better look than the coins that float around the bourse floor and auctions for years on end is considered "fresh" and believe me, after the few shows I've done the past few years, it stands out immediately! A dealer that does it for a living can probably "sense" a fresh coin thru a closed grading box! image

The buffalo nickels are gonna go for wild numbers. A lot of PCGS coins in all sales are gonna go for wild numbers. The two NGC coins I previewed will not go strong - I didn't like them at all.
