has anyone interested in high quality mint state type coins notice that there really aren't very man

this is probabley why the moderns are getting much more attention then the older collecter coins in mint state. By around, i mean for sale.
The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.

I'm interested in nice msBarbers as well as Proofs. I find it tough to locate nice original coins that at least are decent for the grade with no problems. And when I do find a decent one for the grade it ends up having a print on it.

the really nice never messed with type coins can be found, but when you do expect to pay a strong price, why? because so many have been messed with liked dipped and inproperly cleaned. next time you go to a show look at the ones that have been slabbed, noticed how many appear to be flat in color, drab looking, and lack luster, no life to them. when something truely nice comes along, thats the way to get them.image

IMO, this goes back to the same comments I made on the fresh material availability thread. There just is not enough material available. More and more people are pursuing nice quality coins and the demand is the strongest I have ever seen it. Coins are purchased and put away and are not going back to the market, and with some of the type coins mentioned, there were never really that many available to start with that are original

exceptional eye appealling either original toned or great toned pre 1915 gem to superb gem mintstate type coins are rare!!

but with little demand and not much available it has been quiet

  • Its the popular key coins that are really in short supply now. My belief
is that money coming out of stocks for example has been put into a lot
of high quality key coins, collectors picking up several for their
upside potential rather than focusing all their efforts on completing a series.

I think there has been a pretty decent stream of nice MS type coins, most of it coming from fresh material (and some not so fresh) out of the auctions.

    Cases on point:

Superior sale today, some very nice coins that haven't seen the market in 30-40 years - original.

Benson sale last February, awesome collection.

    Quellar collection of Half Dollars.

Dr. Phil Kaufman's ongoing partial sale of his collection.

You could go on, but personally my problem hasn't been not finding the coins to spend the money on.
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.
