The First Stat

There I was... going through my endless pile of pocket change when all of a sudden, what should jump out at me but a Delaware Quarter that's motto was "The First Stat". I remember reading somewhere about this coin but really don't remember what was said about it.... Probably because I didn't think it was a big deal... but now that I have one...it is image

It appears as though oil most likely filled the die as I can barely see part of the "E".... it looks more like "!"

Unfortunately, it is a bit scuffed up due to being in circulation. Does anyone have any numbers on how common this coin is? Should I keep it or toss it into the Coin Star machine image

A popular error for the Delaware. When these quarters first came out, we got the $500 worth that our local bank was allotted. We found one in this bag (was probably more, just noticed this one.). Someone was trying to sell one on Ebay for $150 in the last week (did not sale). Worth keeping, or even placing on the B/S/T board if you want to sell as you will easily get over face for it.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find reference to it on ebay. I don't come across too many "error" coins so I will keep this one. I'm surprised someone tried to sell it on ebay for $150 as I assume it is just a filled die. I have a few 2002 dimes that the last 2 is a filled die but not worth much if anything.

    Thanks again,
    Dave
