A Contest for YN's - Prize!

OK - since we had a little difficulty discerning when exactly the Liberty Bell cracked for the last time, what I thought would be cool is a contest among YN's to explain the history of the Bell, when it cracked and so forth. It's got to be informational and accurate. Limit your writing to one type written page. Entrants will be posted to the board and a selection of the winner will be made via polling of the board members.

First Prize: A nice 1964 Proof Half in PR69 condition. All entries must be received by January 10, 2003. Please send your essay to my email address and I will then post them all together. If you're interested in entering this contest please post to this thread.

Thanks!

Frank

  • The Liberty Bell - A Commemoration Unto Itself

Freedom was ours, at last to cherish
And proclaim liberty throughout all the land.
For those who fought will never perish.
Remember: 'One nation, under God, we stand'

To commemorate the Privileges given by Penn
Hallowing the fiftieth year and begin a tradition
A bell was made of copper, of zinc, of lead, and of tin
However it wasn't built in the best of condition.

On the bell named Liberty, a crack started to show
Once it was tried out in September of '52.
Two John's were sent to fix it, named Pass and Stow
But shortly their work proved to be inferior too.

Melted down and reformed, as governments usually are
The bell was restored in '53 on June eleven.
And most were pleased when they saw and heard from afar.
Remember: If at first you don't succeed, try try, again!

Two decades passed whence all liberties were tested.
A war was fought and do you know who won?
Yes, the Owners of the Liberty Bell, you guessed it!
Oh what a glorious July day it rung!

Liberties are lost little bit by little bit
No one can say the exact day they occur.
It is the same case with the bell that was hit
Where would we all be without a clapper?

Without use, there is no purpose in life that will last.
So we may say the Bell gives a purpose that's grand.
Honor, commemorate, and love those in your past.
Please Remember: 'One nation, under God, we stand'

  • My son (10 years old) did a very nice report on the bell. I think with a little tweaking he could give all you old timers a run for the money.
  • Cool Jclout the more the merrier!

Thanks Wingsrule and Placid for catching my little grading faux pas.

    Regards,
