Question about free grading.

When your set reaches the 90% completion level you receive free grading for 1-5 coins. Depending on the number of coins in your set. Only raw or crossover coins are permitted, and must be coins included within the set.

A couple of questions to those who have used this perk:

1. Can you have a coin graded that you already have in the set? A like coin, not "the" coin.

2. This sounds to me as long as your set is 90% complete you get free grading(s). Regardless of the number of sets you have. Is this correct?

Just curious. I haven't seen anyone mention using this perk.

Yep. I've used the bennie twice. In both cases, all the coins were 1964 proof Kennedy halves.

Yep. See above. Both times I did it, it was for proof Kennedy sets. IPOTAD and IPOTAD II (now retired).

You will get to have coins graded free within the set. As far as I know the coins do not need to be for blanks in your set, but you can submit any coin within that set. The coin must be for that set to qualify. E-mail customer service they will be able to give you the information you need to submit for your free gradings.

    Thanks for the info! image

I had forgotten about the perk until I saw it today when looking under the Benefits link.

I think the 90% completion level and free submission benefit has it's flaws. The percent of difficult dates are higher in some series then others. This benefit is a barrier for collections to enter the Registry until the max is satisfied.......for what?.....free submissions. Wouldn't the registry be more interesting if collections could be monitered as they mature. The difficulty to complete a collection doesn't change
whether it's entered in the registry at 50% or 90% at least we could see more activity in the sets within
the registry then to have someone sit on their collection for a mere $65 in free submissions.
For some series the percent should be less.

    Leo,

Your collection no longer has to be entered at 90% to get the free grading. You can start it with one coin (or more) and build it up. Whenever you hit 90%, then you get the free gradings.

Thank you. I was under the wrong impression. They still could lower the percentage. One of these days I intend to buy a few IS quarter albums from you once I locate a direct fit air-tite holder (which they dont make and kointains are a hassle) for my FS nickels.
