Coin Albums

I was just picking up a coin album for my circ merc set, and when i got it hope I found out mercs dont fit in it! The holes are way to small, we tried to cut the holes big but it looked ugly and cut right through the back, I cant save it but I just wanted to know, first why would someone make a merc album that mercs wont fit into? 2nd is there another way to show of a set, so I can see it without flipping through pages in a binder?

Try a Dansco album. Great for circ. coins.

You need gloves so you don't get a fingerprint on it... place one part in at an angle, then push down on the part of the coin that is sticking up... then they "lock" in place in the album.

  • I tried that, but it is so tight it wouldnt work it hardly worked after cutting the hole larger.

Sell the circ Mercs, get three NGC boxes at $3 a piece from NGC (1800NGCCOIN) and do the
short set in MS64-67. Take your time and enjoy it. Just a suggestion. All slabs fit into NGC boxes.

  • Lol try a hammer it will always work . Im just kidding Kelctorkid I know what your saying a hole the size of a pea with a coin the size of texas. No matter how hard you try they just dont seam to fit.

Thats why I go with the white cardboard 2x2 in yes nare i say it the 3 ring binders. Not real pretty but its very workable.

I've had the same problems. I found the best way to deal with it is take a nickel and press against the edge (from the inside of the hole) to widen it all around. If you do it right, you can widen it just enough to make for a comfortable push in and not worry about it falling out.
  • Apparently the coin supply companies have been misinformed about the size of dimes. This problem isn't limited to push-in cardboard style albums. Bought CoinEdge holders for my typeset, and the dime holders fit extremely tight.

I have a Dansco for Barber dimes and also bought a few blank Dansco dime pages to hold some Mercs and Roosies. After filling up 4 pages, I thought my thumbs were going to fall off from all of the pushing to get them in. Some holes have really tight fits. I like the album though.
  • Years ago when I was using albums, I pushed in all the coins with a golf ball. No fingerprints, no scratches and it works great.

  • Nothing like putting my 1916-d in with a golf-ball. image
