PCGS inexcusibly slow?

I'm just curious if anybody else has had problems getting any coin graded by PCGS? I have had several invoices that have been just sitting there for 1 month now. They say it's due to the holidays but they have not moved 1 inch in 1 month. What's up with that? Are they flat out too busy or there not enough help or are they just flat out dissorganized?

I've seen this complaint a couple of times in the past few weeks. I've been holding off until after the holidays, and the Fun Show, before submitting my coins. Hopefully to avoid any backlog problems.

I heard that December would be a record month for submissions for them. Also, the PCGS invitational was during that time. They graded these coins at once and many dealers sent many in. Plus, for modern stuff, I am not sure everyone there grades them.

ahhhhhh! Dbldie55, you're assuming that I sent in all modern stuff. Would you believe I sent in an original BU roll of chain cents or possibly a keg of Fugios?

Not assuming anything. Many others have had the same complaint that were. When you get one of those Chain Cents back, what will you need for it?

Really slow. Took over a month for my submissions. NGC is also backed up right now.

Dbldie55: The price on the chain cents will depend upon whether you want your Lincoln mounted on gold or silver chain.

I don't mind them being slow, It when the coins comeback with mechanical errors and you have to send them back to be fixed. I've got a couple with wrong coin numbers that can't be entered into the registry and somke that a just the wrong coin on the label.

How much do you want for the coins with the wrong label?

"How much do you want for the coins with the wrong label?"

Remember, when someone gets "ripped off" down the line on one of these wrong label coins, it is my understanding that anyone in the "chain" of title may be looked at to address the problem. JUST RETURN THEM TO PCGS and avoid the hassle.

Mitch, what I meant was that I collect oddities. I'm not interested in selling them.

Mark - do you want to collect real "oddities" - then collect that first MS69 state quarter you (eventually) grade. Won't that be "odd" imageimage

  • My modern submissions have been running about the normal three weeks but the older coins always seem to take at least a full 30 days it seems. I think the glut of submissions from the dealers and everyone else trying for 70's has bogged everything down. I have no doubts at all this will be a record month for PCGS!image

Mitch, i meant mistakes by the mint or the Gods of coin grading. An ms69 is a mistake of nature to be sure but I need weird to get my blood flowing.
  • I sent in 3 orders and they got them on 11-27 and 2 of the orders showed up before xmas and the biggest one is still there as of 1-4-03.

    grrrrr

I figured this out about 6 moths ago. Now no submission is over 15 coins. The ones the are <10 go considerably faster, get a submission with 30 coins and good luck. I would rather pay the extra shipping to get my coins 2 weeks earlier. My modern's take about the same time as a regular submission. In the Q&A forum I posed this question to David: why do moderns come back quicker? A: They have more graders working on moderns, 1 grader only does moderns.

    jb,

You should feel lucky. My single ocin for a guaranteed review entered their system on 11/26/02. It's still there.

Well, they got my submission on Nov. 19th and I still havent gotten word back on it. They charged my credit card (got their money) in November. Assuming they're graded this month... is my submission going to fit in thier records under a November submission since that's when they got paid... or a January submission, since that's (probably) when the coins will be assigned their coin numbers and graded?

The $ probably goes into an unearned revenue liability account until it is earned out (assuming they are on an accrual basis accounting system).

It is an interminable wait. I suppose the holidays have slowed things down. And who knows how slow it is with FUN going on. I sent in a few coins at regular level. I bet they'll be done right when my others are done that have been there since early December at economy level.

I GOT NOTIFICATION OF MY THIRD ORDER BEING COMPLETE ON 1-8-03. Less than 10 coins in that order and had 3 suprise upgrades from what I thought they would be.
