Too good to be true?

I've been watching this auction, even placed a bid, but I just noticed that seller feedback is 1. Is it too good to be true? The quarter looks flawless.

  • looks great, great price too
  • Bikingnut,

The coin is not slabbed, it is raw. It may have been in a NGC MS67 holder, but now, the coin is not slabbed, it is raw. Perhaps, you can communicate with the seller and offer to pay for the slabbing fees and every cost related once he produces a NGC MS67 43p quarter.

To answer your thread question, my opinion is yes.

I don't know the value of the coin at the grade the seller is trying to indicate but I see his reserve has been meet so if the seller really felt the coin was worth alot more the reserve would probably be close to the coins value.

That's another thing that struck me as odd, what appears to be a very low reserve for such a high grade coin. Numismedia lists fair market value at 88 in MS66 and 281 in 67.

  • A very nice coin...And the seller wants $3.50 to ship that sucker.

I emailed him and asked if he had a return policy and if he had eversold on ebay under another ID. He stated no return on the raw coins, but will accept a return on the GSA since it is encased. he also said that if I lived in Southern New Mexico, he would show them to me in person before the sale.

<< <i>this out of its holder and put it in a Whitman folder >>

I fell for that line once. Ended up with a harshly cleaned POS Bust Half that looked nothing like the scans in the auction.

<< <i>He stated no return on the raw coins >>

The seller who screwed me in the above had the same policy.

He has 3 nice Mercury dimes listed -

only problem is all 3 have the same reverse photo -

a close to full bands with a finger print over dime

I emailed asking for more info as 2 (I didn't know all 3 then) Mercury dimes have the same reverse photo.

    AN honest mistake?

The seller/buyer has bought a couple nice photo equipment items in the last 3 weeks and feedback was a few months back - member for 1 year.

    A good deal or steal?

seller (Chip Greenberg) sent me a reply saying that yes he may have made a mistake - and included another reverse photo of a mercury dime (140 KB) which turns out to be the same reverse photo shown on all 3 mercury dimes that he has for sale.

Does anybody know from this obverse picture whether this picture is of a proof coin?

It looks more like a 66 to me.

I wouldn't count on it still being a 67 because too many things could have happened while it was out of the holder. The insurance not available is what would worry me since the seller doesn't have a history of buyers receiving their coins-it could end up being the coin got "lost" and Bikingnut didn't pay for insurance-too bad so sad. Bikingnut s.o.l.

Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
