In case anyone wanted to know what's happening at the show today , here are my thoughts
Went around the room very quickly & noticed many many empty tables. last show was almost sold out.
crowd was small, but seemed the people in attendance were buyers, not just lookers
some dealers were packed with collectors, other dealers seemed to wonder when the show would open as they had no lookers, much less buyers
I brought coins with me to trade or to sell, yet no one dealer asked me if I had anything to sell.
seemed most dealers were there to sell, not to buy
seems there was a lot less coins to buy this time than at the summer show
I bought one stinking coin, & I didn't want it, but the dealer had it labeled as a "show special" & priced it at 40% below bid for a certfied ms 63 pl morgan $, a nice coin for the price
I saw coins i needed, but I do buy ICG, PCI, ANANCS etc certified coins if priced accordingly for the holder they are in.
most dealers quoted me the same prices for a icg coin as if it was in a pcgs holder
... I don't think so......... at least not yet
Most of the really nice coins were in PCGS holders
ACG graded krap, saw less than 100 slabs in the entire show, nice to see so few were available & one dealer had most of what I saw
Also alan hager was not set up, first time since I've been going to this show he hasn't set up
A major ++++++ for this show due to that fact alone
Saw many ICG certifed coins, but pretty strong prices compared to what you would pay on ebay
didn't see many NTC slabs, unlike last show were they were all over the place
saw many anacs slabs, especially for circulated coins
usually the dealers in quality coins seem to handle pcgs & ngc coins exclusively
yet saw quite a few dealers who had pricey coins in PCI, SEGS holders. seems dealers are sending their coins to the services who will give them the grades they feel they deserve, the grading services who are overly strict in their grading seem to be losing a lot of submissions, even if only on a temporary basis
if you like toned coins, several dealers had cases full of killer certifed toned pieces, nothing was priced so I don't know if they were asking crazy prices
actually I noticed a lot of dealers didn't price their coins, so I didn't even bother to look any further
one thing I noticed from dealers who did price their coins was to mention on the slab comments like: "this coin is grossly undergraded" " a lock 66 if resubmitted" " " a 65 coin for a 64 price" you get the idea, dealers must be getting killed based on what they were hoping for vs what grade they actually received from the services of late
also I must have heard numerous times a dealer looking at a slabbed coin & saying this should upgrade If resubmitted.
but then I noticed they didn't buy the coin, if a coin is priced at 64 money & it's really a 65, why didn't he buy it, get it graded at the FUN show next week & make a immediate profit considering how many dealers claim there is not enough coins to buy in this market.
there should be a law against coin dealers selling sportcards when they can't grade a sportcard.
one guy showed me a stack of older basketball cards, of course he offered me 50% off the listed prices, one problem, his cards were vg, but he had them marked at near mint prices, so even at 50% off, your still overpaying for that drek
as I was leaving without buying any, he repeated "50% off of guide price" to me, I didn't have the heart to tell him I would have passed at 85% off his overgraded mediocre cardboard
overall dealers seemed to be pretty laid back, not too aggressive, maybe waiting for the FUN show
for me show was a waste of time, but since this show is only twice a year, i have to go, don't want to miss anything

Sounds like eBay.
Thanks for the report! I'm hopefully going to make it to three shows this month.
Russ, NCNE
That is a great report.I'll help make a report about the Fredrick Md coin show tomorow. It is being sponsored by one of our very own board members(Michael Dixon).
Registry 1909-1958 Proof Lincolns
Thanks for the report. Sounds as though the show was a wash out.
You think it was a little slow, as buyers are waiting for FUN, It is still a Holiday week and buyers and sellers alike are with family etc?
No good deed will go unpunished.

Since I can't make FUN I guess I'll go anyway, you never know when the coin you need is just sitting all alone
needing a good home.
Everything is linear if plotted log-log with a fat magic marker
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
Where's the show in Clearwater???
Or anyone else for that matter.
Thanks!
