I just got 4 PCGS Kennedys from David Hall. Scan added, quick and dirty.

3 MS66s, and a MS67. Whoever their buyer is, he/she has a fantastic eye. The MS66s are especially nice for the grade. I have been buying PCGS Kennedys lately. The quality for the grade has been pretty good. Only one coin a real loser, and it was not purchased from a forum member. I would send the loser coin in for a grade review, but it is not worth the money to do so. I'll just replace it and sell the icky one for cheap. Thanks David Hall Rare Coins. mdwoods

I bought at 1966 sms PCGS-67 Roosie for $10 yesterday, see my thread.
They really do offer bargains on Ebay. Catalog prices in Coin World are a different
    story.

Mdwoods. What are the dates? Could you post an image or two. I would like to learn how to grade Kennedy halves (amongst other coins), especially in the high MS grades.

    NumisEd,

    Why? They're just pocket change.

NumisEd. Here is a scan, I don't know if it will help much. The two coins on the right came from DHall. The 96 D is MS67, the 69 D is MS66 the 69 P on the left is MS68 which I bought earlier from DHall. The scans don't show the luster, but they do show a bit of the marks that separate the grades. mdwoods

Thanks for the scans, but, man, I just can't tell the difference. My logic tells me that it's impossible to grade coins in such lofty grades via a scan or photo. Is my logic correct? Nice coins, anyway.....thanks.

It is not possible to accurately grade a coin from a scan or digital photo. You can get a basic feel for the coin, but if you don't have it in your hand so as to rotate it and tilt it to judge the luster and severity of any marks, it only remains as a fun exercise. A toned coin is even more difficult. You are also at the mercy of the photographers skills. However if you are familiar with shortcomings in photography that exist at B&M, Heritage and Teletrade, sometimes you can pick off a coin that is nicer than the photo shows.
  • I agree. With the recent scan of a Morgan Dollar of mine, as well as some others of mine, I just couldn`t pick-up darn thing on it. It`s tough to pick up the nooks and crannies without sacraficing something else to get it.
