OK fellow forum members, who is POP"ing" out the MS68 76s Silver Ikes ??

I had not checked the Ike pop reports since mid December and I think two new ones have been added (I see a pop of 59).

Since I don't have mine yet, keep on poping them out and when we get to a pop of 75, let me know ... image

  • BTW, not that anyone is tracking this particular date/MM/strike/metallic composition, but here are some numbers:

10/1998, there were 10 of them
7/14/01, there were 43 of them
10/2001, there were 45 of them
5/30/02, there were 56 of them
3/20/03, there were 63 of them

How many do you think we will have by year's end ??

P.S. My guess would be at least 68 of them.

I can guarantee that not one of these are mine. The one's in the mint set are more than enough for me.

But if you want to sell one, I will pay a full $3 for them. (quite a bit over face, but they do have a little bit of silver in them)

  • Doubled Die 1955,

I actually do not own any of them in PCGS MS68, but since you have put in your 'bid' price, hopefully someone else can match it with their 'ask' price.

Probably the same person POPing out the 76 MS 68 Kennedys. They must have also been the same ones POPing out MS68 1999-P Kennedys. I bought one last week when the POP was 16, the VERY NEXT DAY, the POP jumped to 26. I jumped just a LITTLE too soon that time. Any more suprises so I can time it right next time? Please PM meahead of time! Thanks. Ray

I love Ike too, Can anyone tell me if they are going to add the three varieties of 72 -Ps to the registry and when. I will also take a 76-s in Ms-68 if anyone interested in selling.
  • Ok folks, I was down and out (with power) for a week, I get back on, check out the POP's and BLAM !!!!, we now have 73 of them (I believe there were 67 or 68 when the lights went out about a week ago) ...

Like I had said earlier in the year, at 75, I'll start looking to be a buyer (for true MS68s) since they should be a little more affordable/available.

To recap, here is the track of the POP's on this one:
10/1998, there were 10 of them
7/14/01, there were 43 of them
10/2001, there were 45 of them
5/30/02, there were 56 of them
3/20/03, there were 63 of them
9/27/03, there are 73 of them

My vote/guess is that the first letter of the culprit probably starts with a 'G' (that opens up the option s to 2 individuals).

The 76-S is a tough coin in high grade. I'm sure we will continue to see the pop's go up. Question is how good is the quality. I think the solid grade MS68 everytime coins will still be worth $1000-1200.

It's the margianl pieces that will drive the market down.

  • James,

I agree, that is why I said that once the POP's get to 75 I would assume that the prices may get to $600 (or so) and that a very nice MS68 would be a bargain at that price.

I think I have seen 2 MS68's in person & about 12 in auctions and thought that, even though all were graded MS68, maybe half were very nice MS68's (mid-grade to high grade MS68's).

Indeed, there are not too many solid MS68 1976-S Ike dollars. I even saw one PCGS MS68 76-S Ike in 2003 May Long Beach Heritage auction, which is extremely bad. I won't call it MS65 (may be MS63 or at best MS64). I believe with the coin, the 76-S sight-unseen bid will be very low until PCGS buys the coin back.

I agree with James statement. A solild MS68 76-S Ike dollar will be traded in $1000 to $1200. I will buy a high end PCGS MS68 76-S Ike dollar over $1200. Do you have one to sell?

    JC,

Have several nice MS68's put back. I think you are correct, in that there is some schlock out there, which is depressing prices.

Long term, a high end piece will still be worth a significant premium.

Yes the pop's will keep rising, but that'll be true for virtually all the top end moderns.

We who collect those have to live with that reality.

It's kind of like the early 60's and Morgans. You never know what is out there. Find a bag, and all of a sudden your rare Morgan is not so rare. 1903-O????
