do you snipe forum members?

i was reading in another post and saw this

I of course would never bid against any forum member who posted a link to an auction they are thinking about bidding in and/or were asking for advice on. However, if I run across an auction on my own I consider it fair game. If a member posts a link to an item he or she has for sale I consider such an auction open to any and all fourm members who might be interested.

this is the same exact way i feel about bidding on e-bay what are your rules of e-bay bidding?

  • I feel the same way - if someone posts a link because they're interested in the coin I would defer to them. However, if say I was rummaging through Ebay on my own and happened on something that other board members were bidding on, well that would be open for competition.

I agree that it would be bad form to snipe from a thread on the boards (funny, but bad form). I bid against another forum member last week on a coin being sold by a third forum member. Too complicated. Usually, if I'm really serious about the coin, I'll collude, hoping to save feelings and cash.image

This board has 6,000 other members, are they all not going to bid against me?
As long as I bid before the auction is over none of them can complain if I bid higher than they do.

I would. If you don't want people to bid on it, then don't post a link to it. I may have seen it before the link. I may have found it later had you not posted a link. I may never have found it. However, if you don't want people to bid, then don't post it.

If you have a question on it, then ask a fellow member in a PM.

However, I will say that it would also depend on the forum member and how much I thought they wanted it.

Dog97 had better hope he doesn't get into a bidding war with the HepKitty... I can't really see him biding on thongs anyways...

I would NEVER bid against a forum member for 2 reasons:

    1) I don't purchase bullion items, and

    2) I don't have an ebay ID.......yet

    ...are you kidding me???

What are threads? Aren't they a place where everyone can express their opinion? Why don't you start a new forum for people who only AGREE with you? It would read something like this:

    Hey Lucy, nice frankie.

    Thanks, nice Ike

Thanks, nice franklin half of a dollar there

    thanks, nice kennedy half

i've never been devastated because i got outbid on a coin on ebay...no hard feelings here for anyone who will pay more for a coin than i was willing to pay...image

If I know the high bidder is a board member, I won't snipe
    Mark
  • I don't pay any attention to who the highest bidder is or the bid history of the coin. And it also doesn't matter if the coin was just listed or is in it's last few seconds of an auction. I just bid the highest amount that I am willing to pay and forget about it. I check my watching/bidding link every day and most of the times I get outbidded. No problem, someone wanted it more than me.

  • Depends on the coin. I still don't know most of the members ebay id's yet, so it's not on purpose if I do. But if it's a coin that I need, I'm gonna put in a bid. No hard feelings image

I usually don't even pay attention to who is bidding. If a member posts a link about a coin he/she wants, I will most likely defer. mdwoods

I agree its 'bad form' to snipe an auction that someone has posted with a question. But think about it...would some people post an inquiry here, hoping to take advantage of the ethical consensus not to snipe fellow board members? I would never snipe a common piece that a board member posts here. But if someone posts a rare piece that I would have found with one of my screens anyway...I'm not going to shy away from bidding just because I read about it here first. I don't do much sniping anyway (unless I'm bored at night and just watching auctions close). If I ever snipe a common piece (less than $100) from a board member and you want the piece, just PM me....you can have it.

No fair wanting a double standard: if YOUR coin is on the auction block I think you would want snipers to bid- Board Members, or not. The last you would want to see is one of your prized coins going for less than bid and staying that way because a Member here placed an early bid and everyone else is then taking a pass.
So, If I see a Member selling a coin and another bidding on it- where do I place my loyalty?

OK I'll weigh in... If I knew you were bidding in the auction because you posted the auction link in a post looking for advice I would NOT bid against you. Furthermore, If as the final minutes of the auction tick away and I have not bid yet in that auction I will not "strip" that item. If however, I had previously bid on an item and the final minutes are ticking away...It fair game, "Sniping" allowed.

I don't mind competition, as long as its fair. Striping the coin is not sniping. Sniping is good, striping is bad!

it all depends. If it is something I need, sorry. But if it is just something I would like, and the competition isnt fierce, then no. Like when MBBiker got those roosies for a great deal one night, I just couldnt ruin the great deal for him! Of course, I dont remember most people e-bay names, so I dont have to worry about it, I wont know it was you image
