Mint to sell proof/mint sets, proof American Eagles at volume discounts

I saw a post on RCC suggesting that the Mint will be starting a volume discount program on proof and mint sets and Proof American Eagle coins. Orders over $5000 supposedly will get a 5% discount, and annual purchases over $50,000 will earn a 5% rebate. The poster suggested that maybe the Mint would like to rid itself of the many small orders and make it possible for volume buyers to sell to the public for the same price as the Mint charges.

wow 5% put that on your discover card and get another 1% back, pretty soon if you do this often enough you will save so much that you will be totally broke! Thats the way my ex wife worked things out too.

Truely anticlimatic!! I already feel the mint distences itself by not offering the business strikes to the public. Maybe the darkside is the way to go.

The Mint's new discount program is for dealers mainly. Yes they get 5% off orders of $5,000 or more. And if annual orders equal $50,000 or more they get an additional 5% discount. This discount applies to Mint Sets - Proof Sets & American Eagle coins.
