Question about Mint sets

I have several mint sets dating from 1969 to 1973. I plan on selling some of them, but my question is: on the "D" mint sets, all the coins have the "D" on them. But on the "S" mint sets, not all of the coins have an "S". For example, the 1970 "S" set only has the S on 1 penny, the nickel & the quarter. The other penny and the dime have no mark at all. Is this normal? I have several S sets this same way so it probably is - but I just want to make sure. Thanks!

The 1970-S set with the dime haveing no "S" is a rare Mint error and highly sought after.

You're talking about mint sets right? Mint sets in 1970 should include a 70S penny and nickel - but no quarters were made that year in San Francisco. Could you be looking at a teeny little D instead? - The mint set should contain 12 coins total

have an S cent and nickel in the blue Philly packet. If there's an S quarter it is most
likely a proof which has been substituted. Check for clear tape where the set was cut.
jeesh edited.
The P and D sets combined make the mintset. In those years the San Francisco mint was supplementing the coinage by issuing business strikes, so they were included in the mint set as well. I did make a mistake - forgot that the half dollar was only made in Denver that year so you're right - you should only have 11 coins for the 1970 set.

I think Flash had a similar post awhile back on that subject.
Denver----------cent, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar all with a "D" mintmark.
Philadelphia----cent, dime and quarter with no mintmark and a cent and nickel with an "S" mintmark.
