What is best auction for selling rare Large Cents?

I have been digging through the cent collection of my wifes co-worker and have discovered several very rare coins, soon to be in ANACS slabs.
Such cents as the 1796 S-100 reverse Rvd (R-8), 1797 S-143 (R-7), and 1800 NC-2 (R-8), do not need to go on E Bay, they need a good auction.
Is there an annual EAC auction?

  • Yes, there is an annual EAC auction and that would be a good venue for those coins.

You must be taking those rarity ratings out of Penny Whimsy. I can't say about the die state on the S-100 but the rarity for the variety it is now an R-5, the S-143 is and R- 4+ to 5- and the 1800 NC-2 is a R-6. The EAC convention sale would probably be a good choice, the next on is in Cincinnati in April so it may be a little too late to submit to it The auction is being run by Mclaughin & Grellman the same firm that does the copper cataloging for Superior Galleries. The next choice would be to submit to Superior when they are doing the collection submitted by a major copper collector. Of the major auction houses Superior does the best job with copper and their copper sales are well attended by the copper specialists.

Still waiting to see pictures of these rarieties you're finding. I'd really like to see them.

i doubt you could do better than eac for r4+ varieties.

caution: after anacs slabs 'em for authenticity & attrib's, would strongly suggest you crack 'em out & put them in the auction raw. you will do better, in my exp.
