Grading Question - For A Set Not Listed

I have a set of cards (regionally produced) that I would like to have graded.

They are not listed in the Registry.

Do they have to be part of the Registry before sending in or will they grade them and add the set?

Or, do I have to request the set?

Thanks,

Dale

  • As an aside, if you have to request a new set, they ask you for the name of the set, name, email address, but also ask you for Certification Number. What the heck is this?

I'm sure they will grade the cards. On PSA's submission form they list all of the issues that they will and will not grade. Did you check the POP report to see if any had been previously graded? A lot of cards that have been graded are not available for the set registry because there has been no interest yet. I'd suggest sending the cards in to be graded and then request the set for the registry.

By the way, what is the set?

  • If you list the set, I'm pretty sure you can get an answer...
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?

    Dale,

This is probably because of the roughly hundred (give or take) sets that are currently registered with zero sets listed. I assume it takes awhile for PSA to input a new set, so they want to make sure someone will register a set, and their work will not be wasted.

    Bernie,

    Thats exactly it...

Before BJ or Carol wastes time working on a new set for the Set Registry, the person requesting it has to show enough commitment to at least have a few cards from that set graded. As you mentioned, there are still roughly 100 sets that were requested by people and not used after all the work went into developing them. I'm sure that they'll get used eventually, but I'm sure that it annoyed the heck out of people who waited for sets where they REALLY had cards to enter.

  • Send them in and they will grade them. Look at the Q&A moderated forum and you'll see that 2 different people asked a similar question (I was one of them) and Joe Orlando told me that they do not need to be part of a currently registered set in order to be graded under the set registry special.image
