PCI

I have recently came across some PCI encapsulated buffalo nickels. Everything that has been posted about PCI on this board has been somewhat negative...... The buffalos however look real, real good. In fact, I sent them off to PCGS for a crossover. Not sure if I have wasted my $$ or not...Time will tell.

Has anyone had any good luck with PCI graded coins or, are their grading standards really so low???

When first started I picked up a few early graded PCI Kennedys that I cracked out, submitted to PCGS amd most did quite well. I thought, HMM...I found a gold mine! Cheap slabs! So I bought a bunch more.

What I didn't realize is that their standards had gone in the tank. The coins that I got the second time around were so bad that I just stuck them in rolls and didn't even bother to submit them.

But, that's just my series. Maybe they're good at Buffs.

I consider them a cut above ACG and NTC, but that's not saying too much. I've had luck buying their coins I considered overgraded but still cheap considering the asking price. I got a PCI-64 $2.50 Indian on ebay recently for $400. It's a real beauty. I cracked it out & sent it off to PCGS. I had a pipe dream it might go 64, but I was pretty sure it was a very sharp 63. It came back a 63. So with the ebay price, ebay shipping, PCGS fee & shipping, I have the nicest 63 $2.50 Indian I've seen (out of hundreds I've checked out) at a total cost of about $460. Market value is probably upwards of $700. Obviously the market didn't recognize the PCI-64 as a "real" 64 (and it wasn't), but then they knocked it down too far pricewise. I'm sure there a lot of similar opportunities out there, just stay completely away from "no returns" transactions. You don't want to get stuck with a 58 in a 63 or 64 holder, I've seen too many of those.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't an optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.

My mind reader refuses to charge me....

Bloodhound1, you can find mistakes in any of the grading services' holders. You could consider sending them to PCGS if the coins are high dollar enough. What are the dates? Could you post a scan or two?

Most of us would have cracked them out and submitted them Raw to PCGS,rather than pay the crossover rate.
