If you could only collect one denomination coin what would you choose?

I think I would choose the Half dollar. Big enough without being too huge, and it has had so many beautiful designs. mdwoods

P.S. Thank goodness we can collect all series.image

Yes, half dollars. Great variety and large enough to appreciate.

$4 gold coins. Those are kinda neat. As long as I can include the Gallery mint issues in my collection.image

For me, it would probably be quarter dollars; most designs are represented, but I just couldn't be "whole" without the 1916 SLQ as part of my collection, so, quarters it is. image

Darn..... I loved the winged Libertys.... But a big surprise, I'll have to go with the half dollar. Not just because of the Franklin, but also because of all the classic commems! A KILLER series!

Thats a tough one... If I had to choose I think I would also go with the half dollar because of the wide variety of designs and size of the coins themselves.

Throwing in another vote for half dollars. There is something for everybody. Lots of types for the type collector. No gaps in dates so the date collectors can go crazy. And lots of varieties for the wacky variety lovers.

I'll go with dimes. As much as I love the Walking Liberty Half, I still an sticking with dimes. Yea, dimes. Can I have two choices? Or three choices? Is there a denomination called coins?image

    Dollars without question!

  • For variety, both regular series and the classic commemoratives, and overall affordability, would have to say the beloved half-dollar.

For me it's buying power. I like a denomination which is just enough to buy
the most inexpensive meal at the time of issue. A large cent from the 1830's,
a nickel from the thirties, a quarter from the seventies, a half from today are
just about right. Perhaps it's because such coins have enough value to see
heavy use, but are small enough to be generally affordable. It is also likely
that many were often used for this purpose.

    Mark,

I just can't do it. It's a good question, but every time I think I've come up with a suitable answer, I remember another denomination I like. I decided some time ago that my certified modern collection would be dollars, and am complete in mint state from present back to 1929. I am working backward to 1900. Raw, I have all denominations back to 1932 except Mercs and WL's. I keep buying bust halves, and lately find myself distracted by early gold. Who could pick? Sophie's choice!image

    Dollars

You've got numerous types, varieties, metals (gold, silver and clad) covering just about the whole history of U.S. coinage.
