Stopping in for a quick computer CD burning question, please help

I'm trying to burn a mix CD using Adaptec CD Creator. I've done this before on this comp. many times w/ no problems. Now, for some reason, when I burn the CD, the computer and the program goes through all the motions of burning the CD, but no music or sound actually goes onto the disc. For example, it'll say "CD created successfully" and when I put it in and bring up Windows Media Player, it shows that their are 18 songs on the disc and it shows the right song lengths. However, the CD won't play on the computer, my stereo, or anywhere else. Both my computer and stereo have never had problems playing burned CD's.

So, to recap, it's like the frame of the songs is being burned on the disc, but no actual music. I've never heard of this happening before, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Did you finalize the CD?
  • pacman, thanks for being a douche about it, I just didn't know where else to stop.

auto, what does it mean to finalize the CD? I think my software should be automatically doing that, since I've burned CD's using it before with no problems.

If you don't finalize it, it won't play in CD players. But "should" play on the computer, but don't always.
  • auto, is there a way for me to check a CD to see if it's finalized or not? Thanks for the help.

  • You can pop in in your comps cd drive and if it plays the cd just wasnt finalized. Another possible thing that could have happened... you might have burnt the image... rather than the actual songs. I did that before. Easiest way to find out... open the program.. and start like you are going to burn an cd... then it should have a drop down box with a couple options of "create an image" and like burn cd.. or something like that.
  • It's working now, thanks to everyone for the help.

  • Dang it, I spoke too soon. It plays on Windows media player, but nowhere else, including on the computer or the stereo. Crap. When I pull up the disc properties, it has all the tracks in session 1, and then a blank session 2. Any clue what that means, or what I can do to get this damn thing done?
