I have a very cool boss - coin related

Just got back from being called into the chamber of doom by my director. Figured there was something bad about
to happen that would have me working through tonight, which is not only New Years but my wedding anniversary.
Instead it was to present me with an 1897s Morgan for my 'faithful service'. It isn't much dollarwise but it means a
lot to me that he went out to find a coin knowing I was a collector.image

  • Cool - congratulations! It's not often that a company cares enough about their employees to find out what kind of hobbies theyre into and rewards them accordingly!

  • I'll say that means a lot. Anybody that goes to those lengths to get
you a particular gift must have a high opinion of you. All the more
reason for you to set even higher work goals now for the new year.

My last department supervisor was a coin collector, would ask alot of questions and talk about his collection. Co-workers are always bring me world coins to ID and maybe give a value on.
I found out that back in 1965 for the 75th anniversary of the company, the company gave out to employees a 1890 silver dollar in a special Capitol Plastic holder. I've seen two such coins but wasn't able to purchase one.

g097103 want to trade bosses? All mine does is yell scream holler & cuss @ me and drive me like Pharoh did his Hebrew slaves.
If mine ever gave me a silver dollar I would be on the ground doing the mullet.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

That's very cool - a boss who would get you a coin.

The people who work in my group always buy me a little something at Christmas (I wish they wouldn't, I don't think it's appropriate for managers/workers to do gifts but it's so small it's not worth making a fuss over). This year I got a CD and a paperback from Coin World "2003 Guide to US Coin Values." Quite thoughtful of them.

    And happy anniversary, g097103!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Congrats on the coin and the Anniversary. What I love about that story is the lesson all managers and bosses should learn (or anyone in a relationship, really): a little effort to show you care about, or recognize, the individuality and personal life of someone, can go a LONG way.
