small date, regular date

Hi, I'm new to the board

Can anybody tell me how to identify if I have a 1970 s cent small date or
a regular date?

Thanks in advance.

There are photos on this page. Also note that on the small date, the word LIBERTY is always weak.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    Hi. Welcome aboard.

The easiest way to spot the small date is to look at the lower loop of the
nine. If it points down toward the mint mark it's a large date, if nearly
horizontal it's the small date. Same with the proof but the difference is
a little less dramatic. There are other diagnostics but these often vary
depending on hubbing and strike characteristics so it's easiest to look
for the nine. Some people can tell by the heigh of the 7, but there are
a few that throw me here.
    Tempus fugit.
  • Thanks.

    It was very helpful.

No I don't have small date cents, but now I know the difference.

Another page that may help with the diagnostics. I need to change the images, but the ones that are there will suffice for now.
