Lucy and the 49 Frankie, another Gem!

Here is the Obverse of a 49p that I bought for $22.



First I start by saying that the toning isn't as dark on the coin and again, the scan doesn't allow the luster to be seen. I have this Obverse going a ms66, there are some tiny niks that show up on the scan, but are not visable to the naked eye. There are a bunch of ms66 Frankies with this type of toning....



This Reverse has some very nice toning around the bell which, sad to say, doesn't show up on the scans. The Reverse I have as a ms66FBL with strong Bell lines that would pass the grade with NGC as well. The only hits are the 2 small ones on the bell, this is perfectly acceptable on a ms66. The 2 ms67's I have seen had a few hits on the bell as well.

I am hoping for a MS66FBL on this Gem, it should be a sure fire ms65, anything lower and I'll personally pay HepDaddyHall a visit!

Lucy - Nice catch on this one. Question - I see something under Ben's eye and to the left of his mouth on the cheeck - are these dings? I also see a little chatter around the clasp of the bell - are these just picture distortions?

I'm still getting the hang of grading Franklins, but it sure looks like MS66 FBL to me.

These are distorations from the scan, when one views the coin it is fabulous with the exception of the two hits in the field of the bell. I couldn't pass this GEM up for what I paid............. I feel very strong about this one. It is nicer then a few ms66 PCGs graded halfs that I already have.

I do as well, yet another coin that I couldn't pass up.... The toning does look better in person, but it is a far cry from the Frankies that Tonelover has sold and is selling. I love the rainbow type toning...

The one in this thread was found in Scottsdale Az...... I travel around the country and search.... It comes down to being at the right place at the right time. The coin dealer who sold me this was a very grumpy man and watched my like a hawk as I went over his offerings.... I was not comfortable with this........
