Today's Two Cent piece arrival.

Humongous scans here:

Humongous obverse.

Humongous reverse.

Very nice fields on this one with almost no nicks or dings save for one between the T and the S of Cents on the reverse. Only very minor nicks in the lettering on the reverse, nearly nick free on the obverse. Strong strike on the obverse, a bit weaker on the reverse. Plenty of luster, and a touch of red still peeking through.

Very pleased with this one.image

    Brian,

I don't think it is a repunch, but than I wouldn't really know what to look for. BUT, I do have a book on these.image I'll pull it out and scrutinize.

The poor neglected Two Cent piece. Does nobody care about this series? Is it destined to fail as a denomination?image

I love 2c pieces, and your coin is very nice. I collect them by variety as well. There are a huge
number of RPDs on them. I recommend Kevin Flynns book "Getting your two cents worth". Also
    watch out for die rotations.

    Happy new year,
    Brian.

Ohhhh, Ahhhh nice coin. I own one and it's a crappy one at that...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

    Scored a nice EF 1864 a while back that's rotated 180.

  • Nice coin!

I like 2 cent pieces. As a matter of fact one just arrived at my house today for my type set, but I haven't had a chance to see it yet (I'm stuck at work). Its an 1865/1865 which I paid too much for, but I really like it based on the scans.

Anyway, thats a really nice example.
  • Russ, now you are talkin'!! Two cent pieces are great. Waaaayy better than those 1964 1/2 ounce silver Kennedy rounds that seem to reproduce like rabbits. Kennedy halves remind me of that Gremlin movie where the little monsters multiplied when hit with water. Keep your Kennedy collection away from water!

    NumisEd,

Thank you for your input. I will give it all of the consideration it merits.

    Russ,

Seems you're on a mission. You'll be done with your set in no time. Looks like a nice piece.

    What's the grade?

  • my guess: MS-64 RB

I also like 2 cents pieces. I wish I could form an MS65RB collection. I have a lot of problems to buy Red copper 2 cents coins since I saw how a coin doctor treated them (from PCGS/NGC MS63BN to ANACS or NGC MS65RD). And these coins turned spots in a few years inside the holders.

Can anyone tell me where I could find a nice (spot free and good luster) 1872 MS65RB 2 cents?

  • oh, wait....it's PCGS. I change my guess to 63 BN
  • See funny this is I've been watching these on ebay for a couple weeks now and about fell over when I saw you grab one I was looking at. However, I can't really make a purchase on anything yet until I recover from my christmas spending on everyone (including myself image )

Nice coin though Russ image Next time, you might have some competition
  • My guess...MS62BN image

    Dan,

Not in no time. Lest we not forget, I'm still staring down the barrel of the 1872.image

Cypher got the grade correct at MS62 BN. Of course, he cheated.image

    Russ, NCNE
  • I didn't cheat! image Well, ok maybe...it was on my snipe list already imageimage

    Russ,

Let me know when your ready for the 1872. I have a duplicate in MS65RD. I tried once to get it into a 66 holder. Don't know why it didn't. It looks exactly like my 66RD. I'll probably try one more time, in a month or so.

Regardless, it's sittin' here with your name on it. Just give me the word.

  • DAM DAM that is awful good of you.
