Humongous scans here:
Humongous obverse.
Humongous reverse.
Very nice fields on this one with almost no nicks or dings save for one between the T and the S of Cents on the reverse. Only very minor nicks in the lettering on the reverse, nearly nick free on the obverse. Strong strike on the obverse, a bit weaker on the reverse. Plenty of luster, and a touch of red still peeking through.
Very pleased with this one.

I don't think it is a repunch, but than I wouldn't really know what to look for. BUT, I do have a book on these. I'll pull it out and scrutinize.

number of RPDs on them. I recommend Kevin Flynns book "Getting your two cents worth". Also
watch out for die rotations.
Happy new year,
Brian.
Russ,
I love two-cent pieces. Your's looks super - nice catch.
Hurray for the 2-cent piece !!!
Your two-center is nice too, good color & surfaces.

Brian,
That's the book I have.

Scored a nice EF 1864 a while back that's rotated 180.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't an optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me....
I like 2 cent pieces. As a matter of fact one just arrived at my house today for my type set, but I haven't had a chance to see it yet (I'm stuck at work). Its an 1865/1865 which I paid too much for, but I really like it based on the scans.
Anyway, thats a really nice example.
Thank you for your input. I will give it all of the consideration it merits.

Seems you're on a mission. You'll be done with your set in no time. Looks like a nice piece.
What's the grade?
I also like 2 cents pieces. I wish I could form an MS65RB collection. I have a lot of problems to buy Red copper 2 cents coins since I saw how a coin doctor treated them (from PCGS/NGC MS63BN to ANACS or NGC MS65RD). And these coins turned spots in a few years inside the holders.
Can anyone tell me where I could find a nice (spot free and good luster) 1872 MS65RB 2 cents?
Nice coin though Russ Next time, you might have some competition

Dan,
Not in no time. Lest we not forget, I'm still staring down the barrel of the 1872.
Cypher got the grade correct at MS62 BN. Of course, he cheated.

Let me know when your ready for the 1872. I have a duplicate in MS65RD. I tried once to get it into a 66 holder. Don't know why it didn't. It looks exactly like my 66RD. I'll probably try one more time, in a month or so.
Regardless, it's sittin' here with your name on it. Just give me the word.
