You did NOTHING wrong and I will be very upset with you if you stop posting over something like that!
If the coin even was windex'd, you did not know of it. There are lots of coins in holders that have had things done to them and many are unaware of some of these alterations. It is not your fault or problem if the expert grading companies missed something.
I would have posted this to the other board but am staying out of certain threads.
Don't spoil my New year's celebration!

It's over at the NGC forums.
Of all the reasons to leave the forum, a disagreement with pepperdoodles has to be one of the worst. I sincerely hope you reconsider.

If you made an error it was an error most anyone could make. People have no
reason not to trust your word based on anything in that thread! There is simply
no point in leaving.
If you believe the other party you could consider making him whole, otherwise it
might be wise to just forget the transaction altogether.;
Wrong you may not leave over that post , the coin was in a NGC holder if there was that big a problem it should have been sent to ngc, who cracked it out ? would you have taken it back?
Let me get this straight - you are going to leave the forum because, (if the other party was correct and we don't even know that to be the case), you sold a coin in an NGC holder (which had been graded by expert graders) which had, unknown to you, been altered? Are you, then, to be held to a higher level of expertise than the NGC graders?
Stop this silliness and don't make me flame you.
You need to go back and read the PMs you sent to me a while back and apply them to yourself!
Remember what you told me about what the newbies might think? and the other stuff?
Well they might think you are guilty and pepperdoodles called you on it.
Make it a learning experience. I know a little bout coins but I never heard of "Windexing " a coin. I know you are not a dishonest person nor a coin doctor and everybody else does too.
I think you got an underserved badmouthing on the Set Registry board by a very rude & unprofesional dealer. Like you told me let the stuff slide.
Don't be a wimp merz2.

Please stay.

NO ONE HERE questions your integrity or business ethics. NO ONE! One Member after another has come forward with negative testimonials about the business practices of that other fool. To leave now, would let him feel like the winner and we ALL know that is not the case. Please stay!
I don't normally post to "goodbye" threads, in this case I'll make an exception. This one person can not be allowed to come in here and wreck so much havoc. Listen to the people who have posted to this thread. You know support for you on this board is probably something like 100%. Stick around, brush it off, help us keep the roof on the house.
Carl
Count me in with those who would like to see you stay. I concur with the opinion that you did nothing wrong. As for Pepperdoodles - his answer is exactly the reason why people chide him on this forum. We need more members like you and less like him!
Frank
It is also true , that the measure of a man is made by the friends who will
stand by him and support him. By both measure , you stand mighty tall.
STAY FOR ALL OF US ON THE FORUM. Bear

We don't know each at all, and I don't specifically recall any of your posts. But, I think it would be a disservice to yourself if you let a single incident or person drive you away from a pasttime activity from which you can derive much pleasure.

Your decision to leave is unacceptable. Your decision has been vetoed. I can't add anything to what Dog said (I was here at that time), and you know he's right!
You did nothing wrong, you know it and we know it.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I've emailed you my thoughts which are the same as all your friends have stated in this thread. We all want you here on New Years Day and throughout 2003 and beyond.

So far I've avoided replying to these threads, but I've read them.
He stated that the coin turned "months" later. I don't see how he can simultaneously insinuate that he spotted tampering on the slabbed coin BEFORE the damage was visible.
Most tampering is discovered through visible/olfactory cues. Spectral/chemical analysis might pick it up earlier, but it's not feasible to use.
In short, I don't believe HE knew about it until the damage was done. Unless, of course, he's claiming to be the Miss Cleo of numismatics.
There are people coming to these boards every day that need the help of people just like you. They will miss a lot if you go. I have not learned enough from you to be much help to them, so you GOTTA STAY.

I've been out of town and have missed the (substance?) of the flap in question. I cannot imagine, though, that it amounts to anything that remotely warrants your leaving. You have been a long-term, vibrant and wonderful member of these Boards. We would all be much poorer for your absense.
If piling on and sheer mass of pleadings have any effect, let me hereby jump on the pile!
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Don you know how I feel. If you Do decide to ultimately stay away please keep in touch via email.
Don, you see what faith others have in you. I share the same. Let me tell you why he knew the coin had been windexed. Many years ago he taught me what windexing is:
Take a penny and put it right in front of a bottle of windex. Hit the trigger a few times..hard, then rinse the coin in hot water and then blow dry it with a hair dryer.
Try it, it works. It will not take of milk spots or other hard to remove material, but it does remove haze, toning etc. It also does not leave the tell tale sign like dipping on copper.
The trick is to sell the coin or slab before it turns.
I would suggest that every buyer of high end coins experiment with cheap versions and the cleaning "tricks" people use. You'll soon learn to recognize the sublte changes in the coin and the consistent pattern a certain technique leaves.
Bottomline if a coin is in a holder you should not be responsible for it's deteriorization. The grading service should. I know PCGS will make this right. Most likely NGC as well.
Stick around Don!

As to your leaving - NFW.
If anyone needs a translation, the 'n' is for 'no and the 'w' is for 'way'...
Don't let him win.
If what you said is not honest integrity, then i do not know what is ,you sir are a man of his word ,even after 30 day's
",if you fell it was a deliberate attempt to deceive you,I'll buy the coin back. You have indicated that NGC will buy it back "just to get it off the market",."
You Are a man of his word, above and beyond the call of duty!!!
and you stand by your word as your bond!!
So you have no reason to leave, you have done nothing wrong!! and the entire board say's so. so let me be the first to welcome you back!!
David
Well, I dont know what the deal is with Pepper. From reading what's in this thread, I gather it's something to do with "Windexing." Heck, I never even heard of it before I opened this post. And from want a lot of the other folks said here, I think my knowledge (or lack there of) is equal to that of the majority. I wouldnt knock myself over such an issue if I were you. I know you're very respected among these boards. I hope you change your mind and decide to stay.
David
Is this come kind of numismatic hare-kare for selling a slabbed coin that had previously been cleaned, or are you just sick of the BS?

Don, do what you must, I had thought that you were a stronger person than this. Perhaps you are at your limit and need a break. So be it See ya soon. The attraction to belong to this fraternal organization is too strong to vacate it for long.
As for this Pepperdoodoo thing on this board, it has gotten way out of hand. Seems to me as though it is a personal battle between a few on the board, and many on the board have turned it into a public spectacle and fed the flames.
Some folks tried having a little fun on this board over the Holidays (Lucybop, Myself and others) Traffic was light and it is the HOLIDAY SEASON! Oh no, nobody wants any part of having fun, every thread must be about someones acquisition, how they got screwed by one of the grading companies, I bought this coin, did I do good ? please please tell me I did good! Cmon everyone, lighten up
Tis the Holiday Season!

Please don't go! Please don't go!
Seriously, I had my say and tried to help a couple of others. Much of the stuff he wrote I haven't read and
I haven't even read this other thread and don't care to. It's a waste of time!
But we need to uphold the integrity of our hobby and leaving doesn't help.

hack each other to death in the arena. It is morbid, depressing and certainly not worthy
of this Forum. In my opinion, there needs to be some policing of this Forum on weekends
and holidays to stop this kind of destructive mayhem.

You may be onto something here on the weekend thing.
How about a userid, password and breathalyzer to get on ??
