Finger prints on a PCGS MS66RD Lincoln....!!

I have a 1946 Lincoln graded MS66RD by PCGS. It has a large finger print on the obverse and a smaller print on the reverse....!!! I don't remember seeing these marks when I bought it, I wouldn't have bought it...! I don't beleive it would have recieved a grade of MS66RD if they had been there when it was graded.

Does it take a little time for the prints to show on a coin?

Will PCGS do any thing about this?

Thanks
Gene

PCGS will only do something if the fingerprint is such that it would affect the grade of the coin and drop it down.
  • If it has a print that is obvious its not a 66RD IMO. Send it in for grade guarantee. It does take some time depending on the print. I have seen prints in old rolls that barely are visible and others that look like acid was on the fingers.
  • Hi flog31. You have nothing to worry about. There are many, many people here in cyberspace who would love to own your MS66 PCGS Lincoln. In fact, they won't even look at the coin since they only care about PCGS's opinion. You could probably offer them a RAW MS-68 Lincoln and your overgraded PCGS MS-66 Lincoln for the same price ($20), and they would take the slabbed one. Maybe you could sell it on eBay?

You could probably even put duct tape over the coin and some of these guys would still buy it, as long as you don't cover the grade and PCGS label. I am sorry if I sound too sarcastic, but stories like this make me upset. You should run the fingerprint through the FBI's computer to see which grader actually mishandled that coin.
