Home U.S. Coin Forum

I've had my share.

I for one speak out only for myself in saying I've about had it with the crap, snivelling, attacks, counterattacks, and pretty bluntly - childishness. About time I found a different place to participate. I came here for coins, all I read is fighting. It was fun at one time, but this pepperwhatever crap has spoiled my appetite. I'm gone for at least the time being, possibly for good. If you people can't learn to work out your differences in private outside a forum intended for the exchange of coin information, I suggest they change the name of the forum so people looking for a "US coins" forum can skip this one altogether.

For those people with whom I am currently working on a shipment, or for those who are interested in the type of information I have posted here over the past couple of months, please feel free to contact me by e-mail. For the remainder of you, I hope you can bring this place back around to what it could be - a useful forum about US coins without the overtone of immaturity.

  • I hope you come back soon. You contribute much to the forum and I've learned a lot from your posts. I certainly respect your grading skills after the Merc dime grading thread.

Weird posts crop up now and then on any message board. I wish the moderators would at least move them to a more appropriate spot when they start to take over the entire board.
Hamsters oy! Why collect they the taco.
  • Thank you for a well needed post
  • Hmmm, more people that are tired of off-topic posts crowding up the US coin forum, how odd indeed. Sorry had to say that, I seemed to get ribbed everytime I bring the topic up to other posters.

Hate to see you leave if it is permanent because you made some good informative posts.

You just have to ignore the bologna. I'm proud to say I have absolutely no idea who "pepperdoodles" is, nor what the scenario is, and any of the players involved. Those threads seemed like a pile garbage, and apparently they were. image

It does get tiresome, all this nonsense and fighting.

coppercoins, I agree this forum is getting to cluttered with junk threads but I think there is a better solution than to have people like you leave. I asked the question of splitting the modern and classic coins into thier own forums or as someone else said have a forum moderater move all these off-topic threads( sometimes over half on the first page are not really about coins) to another forum. mike

Your departure would be a huge loss for us all. Should you reconsider, I'm sure
you'll be welcomed back. Good Luck.

    Charles,

I don't think leaving would be a good idea; it merely serves to increase the ratio of garbage to content. I too am sick of all the vitriol that permeates this message board. But, I'm sticking around in the hopes that I may be able to do a little good in bringing this around.

Besides, in spite of the mass of content-less posts, there is still some good posts here -- if you're lucky enough to find 'em.

Unfortunatley, here, we have to wallow through a few smelly oysters to stumble upon a few pearls of information.

The administrators have booted people in the past, but it's very rare. There was talk at one time about having volunteer moderators, and I think they've already done that in another forum here, but normally this forum doesn't require a babysitter. The occasional commotion dies down after a couple of days. I believe the admins stick their heads in here when someone contacts them with a complaint, but otherwise it's infrequent.

Sometimes it would be good to have a moderator around, as sometimes all that would be necessary is to give offenders a few days "vacation".

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Man thats lame. There needs to be moderators to keep good peeps like coppercoins from getting upset.

I build web forums all the time and always have them moderated 24X7 cause to many people in this world like to cause trouble.

Being a hyperactive person and always needing to do something. Im dieing to start up a web forum for Coins and moderate the hell out of it cause I hate asses.

Basically it would be a clone of this message board.

  • I 2nd what Chuck is commenting about. What is really disturbing is that A LOT of the problem is that "seasoned" forum members dredge it up and keep it going. This is where it needs to be curtailed. JMHO of course. To all, have a happy holiday.
  • coppercoins, join the Darkside do anything but please do not leave!!! without you this place would just become more junk and less infomative. Also thank you for the wonderful site it's great.
  • I really think we need some volentier (sp?) moderators, Carol does all she can but she she isnt here on weekends (troll days) and she has alot of other forums she needs to look after. With people that are one alot it would be easier for here and we would have less good members leave.

Well, if anyone has a .NET server and SQL Server, Microsoft has a completely functional forum application available for free. Totally customizable, skinnable, etc. Best free one I've ever seen, and the source code is free. ASP.net

I appreciate all the comments, folks, I really do. It feels nice to be welcomed here by the few that matter. I will probably stop in once in a while, like I am this afternoon, but regular day to day participation here for me is a bit much. I tried it out and found that there is too little related to what I enjoy (coin collecting) for me to need to read through everything daily - it's probably best that I take a while off to regroup and let some of the trolls settle down (absolutely nobody in particular), then come back fresh and anew, although at a much lower-key level.

Some of the people on this forum have a nack for getting under people's skin, and I have a nack for being able to ignore it to a point. The happenings over the past few days and no less than four threads about a single problem (as if the first one were even necessary) have really put a damper on things for me. Someone else stated that it was interesting how a good coin related post gets a couple of responses, yet the flaming threads get 50. Thing is, all the flaming threads stack up on top of the good information washing them into the abyss of back pages. It's not the flames themselves that bother me, I could care less about their problems. What bothers me is the fact that someone comes in here, asks a good question, and assuredly receives fewer responses than the question merits because the originators post is washed to page 2 within half an hour. Without all the garbage posting going on that wouldn't be the case nearly as much.

I figure if I give this some time to mellow out a bit then try it again at a slower pace, things will work themselves out....and if not, I simply won't come back. There are other places to go that have plenty of participants willing to partake of each other's wisdom in a civil manner. If this place can't be that place, I see no need in bothering with it.

Quite frankly, PCGS is making a mistake by not moderating this forum. One of the pluses at the NGC forum is that if things get too uncivil, the threads are moved to the open forum and the perpetrators are put in the penalty box. A little more direct intervention here would be appropriate.
  • Coppercoins, Being relatively new to this hobby, I will indeed miss your posts. When I first started coming here , I was so eager to learn. I have learned very much here, but i still have a long way to go. I too come here some days and see nothing but unrelated crap posts. Just when I would get discouraged though, There it will be, one of your posts loaded with information I have been looking for. This is what keeps me coming here. You would be a severe loss to this board. There are other members here who have put up great posts, and I would hate to have others like this get disgusted like yourself. Thanks for the times you have responded to some of my questions here. I wish someone was watching this board , and could boot out and delete the idiotic posts. I will keep coming here cause I need to learn. Just my two cents
