What should I do, buy the book and ignore the author?

I have been looking at the new book out called US Proof Sets and Mint Sets. Unfortunally, it is written by
Bill Gale, a 14 year salesman on HSN and QVC, runs his own company called New York Mint.

We have all seen the Home Shopping Club and Coin Vault shows, and bashed them as the
worst kind of sales, hurting our hobby. Yet here is a book that if I buy it, I will be
supporting the very group that Saturday mornng was selling mint state 2002 Silver Eagles for $24.95 and
tellling everyone that they were getting a good deal.

just because you don't like him don't mean he is stupid. his job is to sell coins to make money. just not mine.

I agree with Don, I would not support him with a cent. I think he is a plague upon the hobby.

    Brian.
  • On the other hand, if I am not mistaken the book is co-authored by Ron Guth who has done a lot of GOOD for the hobby (Coin Collecting for Dummies, and the Coinfacts.com website being the most prominent.) so you could look at as supporting Ron and his good works. Or you could just wait and buy it second hand later so your money doesn't go to support either of them.
