Grading at PCGS???

Last July I sent in two West Point Bicentennial dollars, two Library of Congress dollars, and a Yellowstone dollar. The Library of Congress graded MS69, the Yellowstone MS69, and the two West Point dollars MS70.

Just last week I received the the grades from the rest of the West Point coins I submitted. All graded MS69 except one MS68. I bought all the coins at the same time from the mint.

What are the odds that the first two I sent in both graded MS70, and the other 7, none graded MS70? When I looked at the coins I couldn't notice any differance in them with or without magnification. What gives at PCGS?

  • Assuming there were 2 true MS70 coins and 7 other lesser coins from the original 9 you purchased, the odds of you sending both the true MS70s in your first submission are 2/9 * 1/8 = 1/36, or about a 2.78% chance.

    Hope that helps. image
