When giving coins as gifts, Do you think they notice the date?

Sometimes I give a coin to family members as gifts for Christmas and Birthdays. The coins have been GAE, SAE and proof sets. I usually will buy them to go with their birthyear, and feel pretty good about this. Problem is they never seem to notice the date is their birthyear.

I always assumed they looked at the dates, but later on asked them if they knew this, then they say oh yea!!!!

Does this happen to anyone else, or is it just my very "astute" family members?

  • I have given away date a few date sets and they all noticed but that is because the sets were from the 20's and a peace dollar or merc catchs your attention more than a modern proof set.
