Why do serious collectors watch Coin Vault...??

I find myself doing it too...are we perverse or what?

Its like seeing a train wreck or watching the Cubs play... you know its going to be horrible, but you can't resitst the temptation.

It's about coins! That's enough for me. If there were a station called CoinTv, my marriage would be in serious trouble image I may not buy anything, but I get to look at and listen to a Carnival Barker hark his wares. It's interesting.

Laughs, curiosity. But seriously we should all be spreading the word that they are nothing more than rip off artists.

It's the same as watching a NASCAR race....you're just waiting for someone to crash into the wall or into each other.

  • To get a feel for what their dealers are submitting by the 100's & 1000's to offer on that show. Whatever they are "making" will show a real glut, so you want to stay away from those series, dates etc.

I'm always amazed how Members here create threads to complain about their prices. Those guys are filling a void the coin industry has not. People wouldn't pay those ridiculous prices if they had a better outlet. It is a real shame.

Most of the growth in the hobby infrastructure caused by the increasing interest
in coins is occuring on the net due to dramatically lower overhead. Many people
still don't have PC's but they do have televisions. Hence a void which business
abhors about as much as nature. Television overhead is high.

I guess the famous line applies. "Know your enemy".
Thats the reason I watch it, but can only take it for a few minutes or until the lies start rolling.

    Happy holidays,

  • Fratlaw,

Actually there IS a CoinTV, but it is on the internet. The site is completely coin related and several times a day they have streaming video interviews and programs on numismatic topics. Sorry I don't have a link for it.

Because that's the only place that I can relax and view coins being sold without having any urge to purchase them.
  • I like to see the different coins they offer. Also you can sort of use it as a baseline. You know that their price will be on the far end of the scale. This lets you compare different dealers and see how close or far they are from the prices set on the show. Furthermore, agree or or not, I find Julie extremely attractive and do not care if she knows squat about coinsimage

I like the education value--how not to buy coins. It is fun to watch them hawk their wares, but serious collectors know it's just a show, and don't buy from them--don't they???

I buy all my rare coins off t.v. They're absolutely gorgeous and I am the envy of all my friend's and relatives. I mean, come on! You just don't find such rare coins at that quality everyday! I am planning my retirement around my investment in colorized and genuine gold-plated state quarters. image

Hey Flash; Don't forget to lay aside a few of the genuine million dollar bills from
one of their competitors. A few of these could go a long way to securing an easy
retirement and it's hard to see how you can go wrong at only $3.98 each!

I like to listen to the Lady that is on the show with the fat guy. He seems to always be correcting her. And she is pretty to look at image

Hey, CoinTV, now that's an idea! Available on Cable!

  • I became a collector after watching a coin sales show. Lucky for me I did not buy anything! The show did get me to go to a local coin shop and begin learning about coins. I was fortunate enough to read about coins before making my first purchase. In retrospect I am sure glad I watched that show!
