Another Reason to Join the ANA

This month's issue of The Numismatist just arrived. They're having a membership promotion in which you will get the J.P. Martin video "Grading Mint State U.S. Coins" for free when you join-up. I paid about $30 for it a couple of years ago (its $40 for non-members)and still watch it every now and then. Its 88 minutes long.

The video is a good refresher to the grading course that I took a couple of summers ago where I was taught by Mark Salzberg, Brian Sillman and Skip Fazzari. That is why I joined the ANA...access to the library and a chance to really expand my numismatic knowledge.

By the way, this is the first issue of the Numismatist that is in the new size (same as other magazines instead of the smaller size).

  • I just looked at the ANA site and don't see any mention of this. Is there a promotion code that needs to be entered on the application?

    thanks,

I think the new magazine format looks great.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I don't see a promotion code. You might want to call them:
    1-800-367-9723.

  • Thanks, I'll call them. Since their first year membership is $39.00, this looks like a pretty good deal (if you want the video, the membership is essentially free).

If a member extends their membership can they get it too??

I don't think renewals get it. The ad says "Free to new members."

I think ICG is offering this video free with some sort of submission.

Another good reason to join the ANA is that you can borrow books from their vast library to
    research.

    Happy holidays,
    Brian.
  • I just got a chance to read the new magazine yesterday. One LESS reason for me to join. they have eliminated most of the columns I enjoyed reading and the magazine seems much less scholarly. i did like Col Ellsworths article on security, but I had just finished reading the same article, in even more depth, in my copy of Penny-Wise earlier in the day.
  • I've been thinking about joining but never made the move. For a novice like me, I need all the help I can get. I'll join today. Twowood

The magazine has always been a disappointment to me. I do like the new format better though. But, the magazine has nothing to do with my membership. If there were no magazine, I wouldn't miss it. It not a reason to join. But, its not a reason to NOT join either.

My membership is all about education. I joined to get the $100 discount on the grading course and access to the huge library for the cost of return postage.

There are many threads here about investing in coins. This is one of the sure-fire investments that you can make. I've gotten many, many times my membership fee back in knowledge. Knowledge = profits!
