State Quarter Debates 70's 69's etc......

We all need to remember why this whole thing got started.
"moderns"
It has raised the interest of collectors. Mostly new. Or for those who did it long ago, it was just the thing "the doctor ordered".
As I have said before, PCGS owns the Slabb (yes 2 b's one for the respect of the word, the other for the bullcrap associated with it) Value Market.

Follow me here,

Do you have a PR70DCAM State Quarter in your possesion right now?
If you collect State Proof "modern" Quarters, I am willing to bet you, you do.

Can you grade coins accurately? Then go take a look.
Found one?

Well, hell PCGS has values at 1,600.00 for those babies you have in your collection, I'd send them in to get slabbed!
By PCGS.

What happened? Came back a 69? You sure?
Hmmm.
Maybe send it to another third party grading service, or maybe you should have done that first! Because by now, just by the little handling your
gem has been through, it will truly be a 69.

Had you sent it to another graing service first, and you know what you are doing, (most of us 25+ years of collecting and grading should qualify)
It would have come back just like you thought...a 70! Surprised? You shouldn't be, they are common "modern" quarters.

PCGS, stimulates the market. The Newbie, the "Ebay seller", the "Mr. Quick Money" think they have hit the jackpot.
PCGS wakes them right up......"a 69 everytime"
Because this stimulates the market. Period
It makes people go nuts looking for the coin PCGS will approve, it isn't science, its business, typical USofA business.
You don't happen to think PCGS is making money out of all this bullcrap do you???

If you have a State Quarter "modern coins" (as some of you are disgusted with) and feel its a 70, then have it slabbed by those who do not
have anything to do with the "value".
They will give you a fair grade, I am sure of this.
And yes, know in your heart its a 70.
But face the facts, its not a PCGS 70........NOT YET! wait untill all 50 are out in the field, you will be amazed at how many PCGS 70's "all of the sudden"
just appear! Trust me. As a matter of fact, you should print this post and save it like your coins.

OH and by the way gentlemen,
When did having a 69 ever bother you in the past?

Not anymore. The SQ 70DCAM pop is now around 70 coins.

This is a point that bears repetition; the multiple grading services do help to provide
a spectrum of grades. If a coin won't go 70 at PCGS try NGC. If it won't go 70 at NGC
then you can try yet another or get it in a PCGS 69 holder.

We would also do well to remember that however little we like the modern coins and
the newbies, they are what is revitalizing the hobby! We should try to at the least show
some tolerance to them and their collections if we can't encourage them.
    Tempus fugit.
  • Your right.
    Let them get the 70.
They won't sell it at 70 money, for sure!

WHATS EVEN FUNNIER IS THE CLOWNS that are holding em thinking their gonna make a killing...or the 2 very prominent people who bought a few 2 weeks ago not figuring the pop would double over night

I think all the speculation about companies' business practices is amusing. And I don't mean just this thread. I mean all the threads that seem to know how graders, David Hall, Rick Montgomery, NGC, PCGS, etc. think/act/react to everything. And all the insight into the business plans is funny.

Anyway, in my opinion, the certifiers are helpers for the industry but it is up to individuals to make informed choices. They are the ones who hold the dollars. Uninformed buyers make bad choices. Doesn't matter if it's moderns, morgans, or miscellaneous. As for the certifying companies, they are simply responding to market pressures with what the market wants.

You should be careful, you may offend people by calling them clowns. And saying things that might hurt someone's feelings is not allowed here.
