I happened upon a site that listed statistics for the Statue of Liberty while looking up the poem "The New Collosus" by poetess Emma Lazerus..
One of the statistics given was the total weight of the copper used in making the statue.
This is the strange and coincidental part that hit me...
The weight given for the copper used in the Statue of Liberty is 179,200 pounds....look at this number good...does this remind you of anything?....
Sure you knew that the very first four numbers 1792 was the year that our own Mint began its operations to produce our first coins with of course a female image emblematic of Liberty... kind of neat huh...
So if you ever wind up on Jeopardy or are stopped by Jay Leno in the street or want to amaze your friends you will never forget this bit of trivia as long as you remain a student of coins.

<< <i>Let's replace the copper with plastic. Now the question is, how much copper has worn off due to acid rain, ect... >>
I think it was treated in 1976 during the renovation so that corrosion wouldn't bother it for a very long time. But remember the urine stain on the face from the workers?
