Magical Mystery Toning Box?

I just checked my safety deposit box, (a little slow today @ work) and to my amazement, my coins are toning, especially the nickels and dimes, but not all of them and not the end coins!

I don't get it, they only been there for 2 months. They're in tubes with copper pennies and some paper, but none are directly toching each other. No toning two months ago and presto -- rainbow colors!

I just wish these weren't my "junk" coins. I have to put some nice rolls in there and see what happens.

Anyone else have this kind of experience?

you should start renting out space in your safe deposit box to the evil coin doctors, that way you would know who they all are

Many banks keep the relative humidity higher in safety deposit box areas in order to protect the papers that are stored there for the long-term, also, the airflow is many times restricted in these spaces and heats up the room. These factors combined accelerate the rate of toning for coins and can lead to gorgeous coins or hideously spotted, ugly pieces.

Happened to me to I have rose, blue, gold, and orange toned junk silver
