Would eBay be successful with a ONE DAY auction format?

What if eBay offered ONE DAY auctions? Would they be successful? I think so. It would add an intensity to those auctions that is missing from other, longer formated auctions.

The lot would be on the first and last page at once and possibly eBay could highlight these One Day auctions using blue, instead of black, fonts.

-Do you think this would work, or is just 24 hours too quick?

  • Too quick and even with 3 day auctions I tend to miss things.

Besides there would be too many items to snipe at the last minute! image

I wish I could set the end time. I don't necessarily want to be sitting at my computer listing coins at the times of day I want them to end. My free time is often late at night when the family is in bed... don't want my auctions ending at 0100.

I think this would work if the set up was done right. The auction would held on a specific date, like a hoilday and would be advertised a month in advance.

Then there would be a dedicated section for 24 hour auctions.

    It might work.

You can. TurboLister from eBay will allow this. However, in the true spirit of eBay, they nickel and dime you to death. This feature costs an extra 10¢ per auction.

There are other services that also allow this.

If it is done the way eBay is set-up now I don't believe it would work. Starting and ending in one day would not allow for enough exposure.

If the auctions were advertised prior to the day of the auctions, well I don't see that as being much different than having a 7 day auction.

A 7 day auction is an advertisement for 6 days for an auction ending on the 7th day IMO.

  • When I am looking to buy an item I am looking to buy right now. Coins require that I look at them for a little longer, but on most everything I buy I want it right now. I think it would do well seeing as that is how others and I bid on items.

I was thinking that with the way people bid (i.e. last second), that no auctions should be more than 3 days, so a one day format would be fine. How about a 12-hour format as well?

  • it would be great for bullion type items. given the expanse of ebay, one day auctions for precious metal sellers would be too much to ask of them.
