No Wonder some collectors just do not like Toned coins. These are Fugly. Double Yuk !!

Now this one is Pretty but so is the $12500 price tag. Triple Yuk !!!

    I'd think that one with the pretty blue would make an excellent lure... no luck with it huh?

    Actually, I kinda like the second one...

    I just do not see a whole bunch of Luster on either of those 18D coins. Could just be the pictures but taking a chance is not warranted. The 2nd one with the Blue Tone looks somewhat weird to myself also. Strange Tone for a 64 coin. Nice strikes for the date on both of them though. Guess thats what attracted the attention from me.

    Still say Yuk !!

    Obviously it's tough to accurately determine a coin's true appearance from a picture or scan. Plus I prefer blast white Mercs to toned Mercs. That said, the second toned coin you show doesn't look that terrible to me. To me, it looks like a coin that sat for a length of time in an album and acquired its toning honestly over the years. Now, I hasten to add that I seriously doubt I'd be interested in buying it, but I think the coin deserves a bit better than a "yuk"...perhaps a light "nah"....
