Is the week between Christmas and New Year a good time to post new auctions?

I know a lot of people will be at home during this time of year, but will they be all spent ( physically, emotionally and economically)? image

  • I would say yes... because they got the family out of the way and it all goes back to normal... they also would not have been able to go on e-bay because of family coming over or them go some where. They would want to see what they won and what new material there is.

  • My experience has always been that rejuvenated bidding begins immediately after Christmas. Some people end up with "new" money in their pocket. Some people are glad to the Christmas spending out of the way and can begin buying again. Then sometimes it is dealers beginning to build inventory, as they feel the market will begin to heat up again.

I would say wait till about a week after the new year. It goves those who travel for the holidays a chance to get back home and settled back in. Just my opinion. I once listed around the holidays and did not to so well. The items were all duplicates and wehn I listed them again they did much better. Hope this helps. I know allot of folks have different opinions on this. Richard.

It depends on what you will be offering. I had the same concern, but listed my coin on 12-19. I had a $1,000 reserve on it, and the high bid is now at $2,000 with 7 days to go. I've been told that if you have registry set items, the buyers will spend the money regardless of the time of the year. Good luck on your auction!

Bob, I think your coin will go a lot higher before the dust settles image

  • I don't sell on e-bay but i think it would be wise to wait until after the holidays because i know i'll have alot more cash to spend after chistmas.

I decided to end some on Christmas night just to see. I think only one is no reserve though, so I was hedging my bets.

I listed the 5 2000-S silver quarters PCGS PR69DC for $.01 and I've gotten 2 bids with 4 hours to go. It's too late for a present and nobody else seems to be interested in buying.

    Relayer,

Your West Pointer ain't doing too bad though!

I was convinced mine would be a PR70 when I sent it to PCGS, but it came back PR69 and my SE got the PR70 grade. Go figure.
When I got my West Point order, I received 2 MS and 2 PR. I actually took the time to examine them closely, and decided to send one MS and 1 PR back, due to tick marks, scuffs, etc. They promptly replaced them to my satisfaction. I wonder how many West Pointers will ultimately get the 70 grade if my experience is the norm?
