If u look at the Q. David Bowers Rarity scale chart it says # known. Does this mean the total mintage, or how many survived? If it's how many survived where do u find the statisics?

Like all rarity ratings they are estimates of the pieces known to exist not mintages, they are just estimates put together from auction records and any census put together by clubs/groups who specialize in that series.
