Am I missing something?

What is up with this auction?

1974 topps Ray Sadecki psa 9

Why would this card even sell for 20% of this price? Any ideas?

  • Simple. It's "pantsmanfish" and it's a Met.

I have about 300 raw ones , want one?

  • Bingo on the Mets fan. I been up against this guy on Mets before and he doesn't go by smr.

  • Reminds me of the old saying "A fool and his money soon part"
  • One person paying a huge price for a card doesn't surprise me nearly as much as 2. Someone had to be 2nd place. It just struck me as very odd that a $25 card would sell for $190. It's just not that rare of card. Anyways...

  • Lots of folks know he gets stupid on Mets cards and run him up. Redsoxjeff, to some extent, is similar.
  • Wayne,

That's funny. I saw that auction while searching for cards last night when the high bid was around $30 and passed on it then.

I spent a few minutes looking at the bid history, and here is the play by play:

joe.fats places a bid of $188.99 when the current high bid by sdwetzel is $18.99. He now leads the bidding with a high bid of $24.50 (sdwetzel's max was $24.00). sdwetzel raises his bid 3 times over the next few hours and gives up when he is still outbid at $30.75. Wayne really wants this card and snipes the auction with 9 seconds left and a bid of $35.50. Wayne, sure he has won the card, returns to his "My ebay" page. Shocked image at what has happened, he realizes that pantsmanfish has sniped the auction with 4 seconds remaining and a high bid somewhere at or above $191.49. image

Now the last possible high bid any of the bidders could have seen (before sniping began) was $30.75. My opinion is: two guys put up outrageous bids thinking no one else would and now one has to pay the price. image

My advice: snipe, but snipe wisely!

I've been up against, sold to, and bought from, both pantsmanfish and redsoxjeff. They both are REAL intence bidders and collectors.

Wouldn't it be fun if they both liked the Mets and Bosox......Hee..Hee!

    CHEERS!!

  • No, what'd be fun is to watch them debate the 1986 World Series.

Or better yet, watch them bid on an auction where the winner gets to beat up a Yankee Fan.
