Off Topic....Collector Motorcycles

It's snowing in Nevada....I'm stuck at the firehouse...and the Cowboys are getting killed. What collector bikes do Coin People have?

I have:

1970 Honda SL175
1971 Honda CL70
1973 Triumph Daytona 500
1979 Triumph Bonneville 750
1963 Honda Trail 55

All are concours....showed and driven. Also have a 2000 BMW R1100RT. No wonder I can only afford Jeffersons.

Happy Holiday....It's been a fun year on the Forum.....great people.....remember FDNY and Have a Nice New Year.

I had too many accidents racing mini-bikes and go-carts as a kid and decided not to get into motorcycles. They're fun but dangerous.

  • Fairlaneman,

How about a 1949 Indian Sport Scout with only 6691 original miles with all the original goodies that came with it such as saddlebags, rack, windscreen, tool kit with tools, service records, Repair and Overhaul Manual, Certificate of Title, original "Riders Instruction Book", etc. This bike has been stored in a humidity controlled and ultra violet exempted storage compartment since 1953. So how does that grab you????

  • this is not a collectors item yet but will be sometime soon.

I have a highly modified 2001 Yamaha R1 with a 1120 cc stroked motor that puts 165 HP to the pavement (roughly 38 more than stock). here are the upgrades so far:
Graves stroker kit (1120 cc's) Titanium connecting rods, Graves stroked crank, Graves Full Titanium Exhaust, Graves Ram Air, Graves jet kit, Graves cam, Graves adjustable cam sprokets, Graves valve springs, Graves advancer, Barnett clutch, Ohlins damper,K-40 radar detector integrated into bodywork and speedo, Euro Bikes undertail with clear tailights and led lights,DID chain,Corbin seat, wave rotors front and rear, Race Tech front suspension, Dale Walker electric shifter, gear indicator, rev light
    165 rwhp for now.

the motor mods come to about $12,000 and another $5,000 for the other stuff

I am getting the head ported now and this should add roughly 6-8 more HP. The bike will wheelie in 4th gear at 110 MPH, quite a feeling.

i have run a 10.07 quarter mile without using the electric shifter at 148 mph. I was using the clutch while making this run. it will safely run a 9.60 or better at 155 mph with stock gearing.

just talking about it makes me want to go and ride some wheelies.

  • A 1975 Kawasaki two stroke triple 750(H2) I am almost finished with a total restoration.

i was racing it in the streetbike shootout which means the bikes have to be street legal. those runs were the first time i had ever been to the track. the bike is amazingly fast compared to other street bikes. the power to weight ratio is 575 pounds for the bike with me on it with 165 horsepower. do the math with your car and see what it comes out to. a corvette would have to be putting 1000 horsepower to the ground to equal what I am running.

    it sure is fun.

very impressive, I am well aware of hp to weight ratio, this was evident on my 67 drag car which has 190hp and weighs in at 1300lbs. I have ran at Firebird, Bandileer, and at a now closed down track in Albuquerque. I have friends that have more then 165 dynoed hp going to their rear wheel of their all out drag bikes and they are turning times like yours. A 1000hp Vette I think would run away from your bike, in the Pro Turbo vw class at the time I would compete, the hp range was anywhere from 350-400 and these all out drag cars are doing high 8's to mid 9's.

when i was referring to a 1000 hp corvette, I was referring to a street legal car setup for street driving and just using the corvette/1000 hp rationas I have done the math on the power to weight ratio on those.

If a 1000 hp corvette or any other car that is geared for the strip would probably blow my bike away.

remember I drive this bike on the street and just take it to the track for fun.

  • I had a 1958 Pre-Unit 650cc Triumph Trophy Bird ( TR6A ) competition model ( all stock an orig. ), that was as loud as an entire TEAM of harleys! The neighbors loved it! hah

    lol

    thankyou
  • What about Steve McQueen's massive collection of motorcycles?
He had Indians, etc., some of the ones you mention had to be
in his collection when they were auctioned. I know I saw a
picture of him standing in the middle of them in a collectables
magazine. If I am not mistaken didn't he have close to 100?
