Ignore! I think it's resolved

A member of this board purchase a number of coins from me the end of October on eBay. He paid, and I shipped the coins on Nov. 5, 2002. I even shipped a couple of extra Silver Eagles and Maple Leafs to be paid upon receipt. Friday, Nov. 15th I receive an e-mail saying he had received the coins Nov. 13. He said, "The coins themselves are okay, but most of the holders are a bit scratched (that's the way it goes often times). I noticed 1979 and 1981 have quite a bit of toning on them, esp. 1979." I then offered to refund all of his money at that time, including shipping both ways. Nov. 18, 2002 I receive an e-mail from him saying he had had food poisoning, and asked, "Can you give me a few days to think abou this?"
December 21, 2002 I receive an e-mail from him saying he had not gotten back to me because he had, "been sick with a bad cough and cold." Now during this time, he has listed and bid on numerous auctions on eBay.

My question is, what would you do in a case like this? I offer a 100% money back guarantee on everything I sell, but it must be within 7 days from the date of receipt. Am I being unreasonable here in not wanting to refund his money this late after the auction? I did believe him when he said he had food poisioning, and gave him that, " few days to think about" it, but really, isn't this a bit much?

Thank you for any advise you may offer, and I will take it under advisement.

My feeling are if was active on the boards, bidding and buying, it'a a case of buyers remorse. I think you would be justified in telling him/her, sorry too much time has passed for a refund.

    John,

It's long enough, and you've been more than fair. Over a month to decide? Puleeze. If I was sick, and not sure I wanted the coins, I'd have them sent to you.

Asking for a refund more than a month after receiving a coin is unreasonable.... cough, cold, food poisoning considered.

I'd say he decided he liked them after all and doesn't want a refund. Forget about it.

You have been more than reasonable. At this point, I would say the coins are his to do with as he pleases... image

  • I agree with the general consensus of the others. More than enough time has passed for a refund. Now he owns these coins and can do whatever he wants with them. If he sends them back to you, consider it a gift. image

  • John,
Your buyer has had more than enough time for action. I would tell him that the deal is closed. If he persists, tell him to "buzz off" or something like that.image

I'm usually decent to most people and give them the benefit of the doubt but if they have well enough to list & bid on things & put me off then that kinda changes things.
    Who was this deadbeat bum?
I gotta go neg some dealers that sold me some slabs and didn't mention that the plastic was scratched.

Did you ever collect on these?
  • Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer this thread. Now I'll try to answer all of the questions that were posed.

KlectorKid - The answer is yes and no. See my answer to MrLee below.

Dog97 - I was about to do just that, give him the benefit of the doubt, when I checked eBay and saw his activities. If he negs me on eBay, I may just let you know who he is. I left positive feedback for him when I shipped the coins. I have since changed the way I leave feedback based on this experience.

MrLee - The answer to your question is yes, and no. I was short one of the 34 PCGS PR69DCAM coins I sent him valued at $17, so I figured he could keep the Silvers for his troubles. It's a long story, and when I try to tell stories, visions of the movie Airplane run through my head. You know, where the guy is telling his life story and the Japanese soldier sticks the samori sword in his stomach, and the little old lady... Anyway, no I have not been paid, and that is fine with me. I promised to send 34 PCGS PR69DCAM coins, and didn't. I did tell him I would ship the coin at my expense, and didn't hear from him again until today. The missing coin and the silvers were not discussed.
