My finds from 1000 Halves I recieved today at the bank ;(

Ok, I just unwrapped 50 rolls of halves I ordered. They came from Brinks via my local banking branch.

110 Bicentennial halves (just for interest)

1 1968 40%
2 1967 40%
1 1969 40%

Nothing great. That seems like SLIM pickins... I am going to try again and see what happens.

Seems like a lotta work for four 40% halves, but they're still out there. I hit a motherlode a while back, at my credit union- out of about $60 face, there was only one clad and one 90% 1964- the rest were all 40% silver!

Halves are hard to find around here, though. If there were more out there, I would do exactly what you're doing.

Look at it this way: you got four pieces of silver for face value. That counts as a good score in my book. And the work of looking through them is usually not work- it's fun.

I like to search nickel rolls, too, for early dates and Warnicks. I hit a huge War nickel bonanza about four or five years ago, at my neighborhood convenience store. When the clerk handed me my change, there were two grungy Warnicks in there. I asked him if he'd check his till for me. There were several more. Then we pulled all the rolls outta the safe (which took a while since it had a time release on it). There were several rolls of solid War nickels in there. Strangely, all the coins were black and slightly sticky, like they'd been in grease or oil. I didn't complain, though. Silver is silver, right? image

I'm not able to go through rolls here. The banks charge money to order the coins, then they turn around and want a commision for counting them. The few coins you find aren't worth the effort here. Before they charged I would go to the bank every Saturday and go through rolls. I wish the banks didn't charge here!

The anticipation of the serch is more fun than the results.

  • This is true....until I have to pay, I will contunue to unroll rolls.... I am hoping for better results next time.

  • Jamie,

seems like tons of work for little reward. Almost as bad as when I used to do penny rolls, looking for wheaties. Question is, if ya had fun, it was worth it. And it cost you nothing. Most of my coin Follies cost me tons!

I just put in my order in for $500 halves and $500 dollars @ my bank. Boy do I hope I get better luck then you, sorry.

The interesting thing is that the dollars are all going to be SBAs, no Sacs. That should make it a little better. It'd be interesting to find some solid date/mint rolls in there.

I'll post the results in about a week.

    Michael
